Hey guys I was wondering if y’all have had this issue before. It just started last week on the highway, and currently only occurs around 65-80mph. It’s a weird humming noise coming from the driver side center of the dashboard. Like a weird reed noise or like I have a huge hole in my firewall causing air to come in. I just had it inspected at the dealership for wheel bearings, CV axle, etc. The Toyota head technician also drove my truck and heard this noise and said the only way to diagnosis it would be to rip dash apart and that can get pretty expensive. I do not feel any vibrations in the steering wheel or pedals. I do have an icon 3in lift and 33in tires but it has been this way for about 2 years now and I’ve never heard this sound. Today I put painters tape all around the windshield and it still didn’t make a difference. Please let me know if any of y’all have experienced this or know what the issue may be, I know vibrations and weird noises are hard to pin point but just thought I’d ask on here to see if anyone had a fix for it. Thanks.

Put in in 4wd and see if it goes away, if it does, you need a ECGS diff bushing in the front.

Ah, pre-runner, I see ''truck'' and automatically think it HAS to have 4wd.

Then you have something vibrating like a piece of plastic or something.

Haha yepp, an older brother ruins it all when you get the truck in high school and have to be on your parents insurance. No 4wd for me after he ruined a couple trucks.

okay thanks, it’s just a pain in the freakin ass listening to this bs. I travel for work so I’m on the highway quite a bit. You reckon it would be inside the dash?

No, it has to be somewhere where wind can hit it. If it's hitting the cab anywhere, the sound will transmit very well.

That’s true man, I appreciate your response! Hopefully more ppl will chime in. I did see where some ppl put weather stripping inside their doors seals and all.

Did they check carrier bearing? Mine made squeeking noise backing up, but each truck is different.

Hey tie die, nah man no squeaking noise or grinding or anything. No acceleration or deceleration noise. I tested it today on the highway again, it seems to truly be only activated with wind. Because I’d roll up behind a semi or even a SUV and the noise would go away, the moment I switched lanes, the bee hive noise started back up. I ordered some weather tech rain guards because the current ones I have are all dry rotted kinda, so I will install those whenever I get them but I really think it’s something directly in front of the steering wheel. Maybe I need to replace all seals along my front windshield? Including the plastic portion that goes under my hood?
