Peragon cover on a 2nd gen, will it fit?

Hi all,

I'm looking to add a hard tonneau cover to my 2012 DCLB and came across Peragon in my research. I love the design and that the cover comes out quickly when I need to carry something big in the bed. The only problem is, they only make covers for the 3rd gen Tacoma.

Everything I've read on the forums here indicates that the 2nd gen and 3rd gen beds are the same dimensions, with the only difference being the 2nd gen's bed rails are mounted higher than the 3rd gens.

My thought is that if I remove or relocate the bed rails I should be able to get a 3rd gen cover to fit. I reached out to Peragon and they don't provide advice on mods (fair enough) but did give me this insight:

"Yes, the main difference between those two generations is the side rails sit higher than the tailgate on the older Gen Tacoma. The current generation cover we sell for the new Tacoma has a wide rail lip with a seal on it and that would prevent that cover from sitting down in the bed and sealing like it should on the older Gen Tacoma."

Does anybody here have any insight into potential problems installing the Peragon cover on a second gen? I feel like it should work without the bed rails in the way but would love to hear from the collective wisdom of Tacoma World before pulling the trigger.
