    Hello friends.
I recently traveled from Arizona to Utah for a friend's wedding. I made the decision to relax, and take it easy...I had plenty of time to arrive to my destination on time. I filled up at Maverick in Holbrook, AZ, and drove up the 191 through Chinle/Moab/Price to my friend's home in Salem Utah without stopping for fuel. The following morning I stopped for fuel at a Chevron in Spanish Fork. My truck told me that I have averaged 28.1 mpg that tank. Manual calculations, 486.6 miles, 17.798 gallons = 27.34 mpg. I double checked the miles against Mapquest and they're accurate. That's better than I expected, which was 24-25 mpg. But I did something that I suspect few are willing to do - I set the cruise at 60mph and did that speed the whole way. In the past I've had good luck in other vehicles with fuel economy at 60mph, and this truck seems to be similar in that regard. My truck is a stock/original 2022 Tacoma TRD Off Road with 3.5 V6 and 6 speed manual transmission. I keep tires at 37 psi. It now has 21,000 miles on it. I just thought I'd share, for any who are curious what it CAN do, if allowed. I enjoyed the trip! I love this Tacoma. Pics of my truck attached.
*PS, on the way home I was not in the mood to go slow, I hustled. Truck said I averaged 18.1 mpg, and I DID have to stop for fuel along the way.

Yeah you can see pretty great mileage under 60. It falls off fast once you get over 60

Thanks. It's also real, which means somebody else out there is doing the same. I suspect many don't ever see these numbers because 1) it was one long highway trip, and 2) I set the cruise at 60mph. The guys I worked with all laughed when I told them what I did. They all agreed "...I could never do that, I'm too impatient." Honestly, when I'm in the mood, I enjoy a slow cruise, and I enjoy the scenery more. But I'm hot/cold. I'm either relaxed and going 60-65mph, or I'm doing 10-15 mph over and passing everyone. Depends on the day and the mood I'm in. When I got the truck last year I spent the first few months just seeing how well I could do on MPGs. I was able to average 23-24 mpg with my mixed driving, when I was focused on MPGs. Now that I'm past that, just cruising around getting work done in a hustle, I'm averaging about 19mpg.

Whoa, some flooding going on in your area!?

With the way I drive I'm lucky to get 15!
But I hardly am ever over 50mph and a little extra weight.
I do get low to mid 20's when I drive to Utah or through it.

    Edit: Also on 33's.
It always makes me feel better when I do electrical mods and need to disconnect the negative on the battery. My distance to empty will bump up a 100 miles or so to the 340's.:D

Yes, I've noticed 75+ the fuel economy is terrible. It does drop off quickly above 60mph. But it seems very happy in 6th gear at 60mph. Occasional downshift to 5th going up a long/steep hill.

Hah! Yes, this gentleman lives off-grid in a remote area (hence the TRD) and he had a frozen pipe, which resulted in a 3000 gallon water tank draining through his home. Mucho damage.

You would be surprised. It doesn’t drop off as much as this site makes it out to be. I’ve gotten mid 20’s mpg @ 70mph.

Really about the terrain. Going straight down a mountain obviously does wonders for fuel economy, but interstate driving in non windy and relatively flat locations is better than expected.

Well that explains it. 2023 TRD Pro 6MT. Only get 17-19 at best. But I always drive it like I stole it. Nice to know it CAN do better if I’m patient. (I’m not).

I'd have to say my most enjoyable drives have been setting it on CC at 60, getting over to the right and relaxing, always great gas mileage and much less stressful, especially when going from southern to northern california on the 5.

I got this the other day, going from high desert to sea level, but plenty of stop and go traffic and lifted on 33s with a tune. I did a bit of spirited navigating, so not too bad.

I'm looking forward to doing a road trip to do my own calculations to get a real number using CC.

    my dirty dash

That looks pretty good! Especially for lifted and on 33's.

Yeah, curious to get a real number now that I see your post.

It's an AC, so a bit lighter, but I'm running sliders too, sooo...?

AC? Teach me...what does this mean? Yes, makes me wonder if I had this same truck, but in the old 2wd non-prerunner setup that was low with pizza cutter tires, I have no doubt it would do 30 mpg. But I need/want the TRD Off-Road stuff, especially the 4L crawl ability, so...

Seconded. I've gotten 25.8 MPG a few times through a combination of 60 and 70 MPH driving and imagine it would be higher if it were entirely 60.

AC= Access Cab. Toyota's name for extended cab. Smaller cab than the double cab, or as most would say, crew cab.

It's real, and my truck is normal, so I have not doubt I'm not alone in this.

Hmm. I really like the look of that. Off-topic, but perhaps shoot me an up close of the wheels/tires (curious about size, etc) and I'd like to know what lift you have on there.
