Impressive mpg OP. What RPM was it turning at 60 mph in 6th gear?

summer vs winter mixes for gas make a difference too. I'm getting like 15 ish on my MT pro but e rated 33s don't do it any favors.

Oh, yeah, my bad. But yeah, I think there are a few threads confirming too.

Best MPG I saw was 89.4 MPG, but that was also almost entirely down a mountain lol.

Right? I was researching tires (for the future) and noticed that most e-rated tires will bump of the tire weight DRASTICALLY compared to the bizarrely light-weight stock tires. It's a little discouraging. For example, a 265/75R16 all terrain is generally e-rated, and will bump of the tire weight by 10+ lbs per tire, sometimes 15+ lbs per tire. No doubt this would negatively affect MPGs. And so far the stock tires have done everything I've asked of the truck off-road, some of that being fairly rough.

I don't recall now...I knew during the trip. :) I'll check the next time I hit the highway.

I'd like to see that. Wheel specifics, lift specifics, tires, all of it.

There are some variance on that to get 33s. 285/70/17 comes with lots of options for SL rated tires whereas 285/75/16 is all basically e rated. I was told that the manuals dont need to get the spedo recalibreated since the setting is different from the autos but that usually why the mpg is reporting lower as well. It's not just the weight its the rotational mass too. The 285/75/16 Copper Discoverer AT3 XLT that I have now (and love) are the same weight as the 265/75/16 Toyo Open Country RT's that I have but dont return the same MPG.

while not 60 mph, I do grab the right side of the highway and let all the assholes fly by, it is a nice relaxing drive. On longer drives, it’s not uncommon to catch up to or even pass some of the ones that push each other, they either get pulled over, fluctuate speed, or are jackin with their phones.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
My best (calculated) mpg this season was 22.1 mpg driving the rural hills of MA & CT. My experience is showing me that 45-60 mph yields the best fuel economy. I set cruise for 65 mph on the interstates which drops it a bit.

Manuals and autos report the same. The odometer is based off of a stock 265/70R16 (30.5") tire. The speedometer is based off a 265/75R16 (31.5") tire. As such, the odometer will rack up miles just a tad bit slow on 1" larger than stock tires while the speedometer will show correct. On stock tires, the odometer will count miles accurately but will report speed a bit quicker than actual, rougly 2-3 mph at highway speed.

A 33" will make both the speedometer and odometer slow at highway speed. This doesn't change between an automatic or manual, both report speed and mileage the same. You don't "need" to recalibrate but any truck will be inaccurate on 33's. Not by a lot, but by some. If calculating mpg, you would need to factor in that you went about 7.5% further than the computer shows, meaning the mileage is 7.5% better than the computer thinks it is.

What is different between auto/manual is the automatic has a speed sensor monitoring driveline speed for governing speed purposes. What that changes is that when regeared, the faster spinning driveline from the regear means the vehicle tops out in speed earlier unless adjusted via tuning. MPG is the same amount of accuracy on a manual vs auto either way.

Not sure I have heard conflicting information all I know is when I use gas buddy the tracking is the same as what the MID is reporting.

Is gasbuddy tracking everywhere you drove? Haven’t seen that before.

you know my original plan was to stick with my stock 16" off road alloys and add larger 16's, but I had a hard time finding a good price on a lighter C class tire, many of the 16's were stupid heavy, add a wheel and you could be pushing 85+ lbs

I'm running the maxxis ATR, 43lbs on a 285/70/17, quiet, smooth, braking as expected, great reviews and there was a thread on TW that talked about it and sold me on it. Plus, I just needed a reason to buy new wheels because :)

total I'm - 70lbs. The tires were $190 before tax, free shipping out of walmart.

I don't know it is making sense mileage wise because I haven't been tracking anything, and I've been making changes to the truck pretty steadily.

Indeed. I take it back. My real best 26.8 MPG on a 44 mile trip with the majority being in 4x4. I was also doing a max of 45 mph due to the weather, but I was impressed nevertheless.

Ah, patience. I don't have it, so I do 70-75 on the highway and usually get 21-22 mpg indicated with my 6mt Sport, which I'm happy with, as my daily commute of mixed highway and city delivers 15-17 indicated mpg, but I like to wind out the gears and have a little fun with my commute, so I can't complain about that either.

Next time I take a long drive I should do the cruise control at 60mph thing (I would have to use cruise to do that, or I'd just creep up to my usual speed) and see what mpg I can get, just for kicks.
