Hey guys just looked at a 08 tacoma, the body and everything is immaculate with only 160k kms on it.

The frame was not replaced under recall and has a few bubbles and rust spots as you can see in the pics. Do you think it’s too far gone or could it be touched up?

Up here in the Rust Belt, that's a 5-year-old vehicle.

Is the frame still good? Without putting it on a lift and poking around, I can't tell you. I would suggest that you check the box sections of the frame near the catalytic converters. They're the most prone to going bad first. And remember, that truck is way out of the free frame replacement window, so if you don't do your due diligence, it's going to hurt.

The rust near the cab mounts is the only concern, they are known for perferating there even on mild rust trucks like this. But just the same I'd say its good, but I'd have the frame treated if I bought that truck.

Not too bad but I'd definitely go and hit every square inch of the frame with a ball peen hammer to try to find find rust perforations or soft spots.

That frame still looks solid, it won't be soon if you don't do something with it quick.

SKIP - that cab mounts aching to go, 100 bucks you can tap a hammer right through it next to the second set of cats.

wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Do yourself a favor, find a truck in the south west, have the person take a bunch of pics etc, fly and drive home.

Look at the frame near the catalytic converters. The section, facing the converters.

That frame looks like it wouldn't survive a ball peen hammer tap in the right places. I'd take a pass on it based on the pics.

IMG_0177.jpg IMG_0176.jpg IMG_0177.jpg While I do not agree that the frame is trash, keep in mind it will be a constant battle to keep it from becoming Swiss cheese.
I fix Tacoma frames all the time and from the pictures, that one is not too bad…I’ve fixed much worse and seen them go another ten years.
If you have the time and resources you could find a used frame out west and save a whole bunch of money vs a new truck (granted you can do the frame swap yourself).
Areas to hit with a hammer from the photos:

I do not agree that the frame is trash.
I’m not sure what part of North America you are in. But everyone has different levels of “too much rust”.
People who are accustomed to snow or the rust belt will say that is a good frame but needs work.

To me, that all looks like surface rust. Wire wheel, “insert product here” and a beer will take care of it.
But look inside the C channel of the frame.

    Well that makes some sense.
We barley have enough salt in reserve each winter. It’s pathetic.
