Same here for owning vehicles. I try to do the least service on them till the cost of repairs exceed its value. My 2001 tundra was good for nearly 300k miles, 19 years later. I sold it for $5k to a local shop. The shops owner had begged me to sell to them a number of times. They had a buyer already lined up.

I've been in my '22 for 11 months and 3,600 miles. I was well aware of the Gen 4 and all the rumors surrounding what everyone thought it would be. I wanted an MT and that was the primary driving factor. I am glad they have decided to keep that as an option on the Gen 4. I must admit that I like it more than I thought I would but some things I could do without or would wish for something different but that's always the case.
Do I regret the purchase and wish I had waited for the release? Not really. I don't have anything against turbos and currently own two turbocharged vehicles, one a year old that has similar specs as the 2.4T, and one 31 years old that is still rocking the original turbo, but it only has 90k miles and has been carefully maintained - and is a simple fully mechanical diesel.
I am 62 and bought the Tacoma as my last daily driver with the plans on driving it until it quit and died or I did. I have purchased a number of vehicles for "toys" but the daily driven vehicles have literally been handed down to family members and driven to the junkyard.
I am very interested in how the initial model year goes. No doubt there will be countless Broverlanders that load them up and abuse them while creating more influencer content to post on their channel. I think that's great as it will quickly identify weak links and help Toyota sort out issues. If it proves reliable who knows, maybe I will sign up - especially if I am to believe all the issues with the 3.5L will eventually find me and I'll have to part it out. I pushed my luck and bought a white one as well.

My son has the new gen Tundra about 15,000 miles on it now. He loves the truck except he says it pretty much gets the same gas mileage as his old Tacoma plus if the turbos/motor start having any kind of issue he said he’s going to dump it.

So many baseless assumptions made in this thread it’s hilarious. A couple of facts:

    1. 4th Gen pricing hasn’t been released yet. You have no idea what they will cost. Stop assuming.

    2. A solid Turbocharged i4 engine can make a shitload more HP and TQ than most people can comprehend. Imagine what these motors will do with a tune…

That said, I’ll hold off for a couple years while kinks get worked out on the new platform. Also interested in seeing what the 6gen 4Runner has in store.

If your 3rd gen is not dclb then well I’d bail for the 4th too. Imo, not sure why the topic of 3rd gen dclb’s value over time isn’t questioned more? Is 6ft bed offered for all trims gen 4?
A 3rd gen 6ft bed doublecab longbed 4x4 you’ll leave? The last old school mid sized truck ever built you’ll leave?
Plus it’s only a matter of <5 years some amped up folks build a v8 tundra swap for these :burnrubber:

I’m glad that they have correctly assumed that not everybody wants a four-door dadmobile.

But I think the xtracab is a weird design direction like they almost want to make a regular cab and they no longer want to have a four-door access cab with suicide doors, but they still want some really hard to access space behind the seats…

I’m somewhat disappointed that there isn’t a short, regular cab version for the 2024 model year, one of the only complaints about my third generation 2022 AC is that it’s just a tad too long.

I wish they had carried over the 2.7L engine without a turbo option.

As reliable as the 2.7L has proven to be, it's a total dog. If the 4th gen SR came in an Xtra Cab 4x4 with a manual transmission, my SR would be on the market. The Back to the Future bachelor Xtra Cab rocks.

Oh boy, did I want a truck just like that back in the 80's. Probably why I'm partial to Toyota pickups.

Of course, I'm old enough to have seen BTTF in the theater. All three of them.

I see what they’re going at and it looks really cool, but why have that space back there if you can’t easily reach it. My fat ass isn’t crawling over the seats.

And despite reports of being slow, the 2.7L is super reliable… and cheap.

I like the Pro but I also like not having any truck payments. Might hold on to my 3rd gen for a little longer.

It’s not that I think the turbo 4 is not powerful enough, it surely is.
Nor do I think that it won’t be the most reliable vehicle in its class, it will.

but comparing it to my 3rd gen, I’ll pass.
    I have enough power.
A turbo (not the engine, the turbocharger unit) will not last as long as the rest of the engine. These new turbos are very expensive, not like a rebuilt $300 turbo on a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse. These are at least a grand. Nope.

But they will be more reliable than the competition, not the 3rd gen.

We have a Volvo V90 T6, my wife puts less than 5k miles a year. Love the car, love the engine but I drive 2 to 3 times more than she drives. I doubt she’ll need a turbo in 10 years, but I’d need one at 12-15k miles a year if I tried keeping beyond 10 years.

I’m sure I’ll end up with another pickup and it’ll probably have a turbo but that’ll be retirement age, less driving I’ll do.

Good luck to all of you leaving for the 4th Generation. You will find the same issues once you start adding all of the extra weight of over sized tires etc etc.
I have a SR-5 with the stock smaller sized tires. I think it operates great. It takes me into the woods, on the beach, through the snow and rain. I overload it with shit at times. Its done all things quite well. Once you create the monster, you have to feed it.

Largely stock at the moment. ARE Overlander bed cap. Much more to come as budget and workshop access permit.
I do admit, I am a fan of hybrids... Not any particular vehicle, but what they are capable of... Then again I was a fan of SciFi as a youth... I spent several years trying to work out how to convert my 1984 Fiero to "IC/E" (Internal Combustion/Electric) in the early 90s. I AM looking forward to seeing how the Hybrid Tacoma turns out, but why would I want to sell off my 3rd gen before I have driven it into the ground??? It should have another 10 or so years of life in it at least. Besides as so many point out. I will not see ROI on my modifications, so unless the 4th gen turns out to be something amazing, it seems that it is going to be overly expensive just to say "hey I have the latest and greatest mall crawler on the market" (Have you seen the front bumper they are saying they are putting on the TRD Off Road??? It is a pure street truck. At least the Trail Hunter looks like it will be worth the money with available 6' bed and actual off road design)

You aren’t alone. The 3G is great inspite of what some people say. It’s the best selling midsize truck so a lot of people like it. It’s just the naysayers on here that create the impression the truck isn’t a good one.

Mostly by people that don't own one or couldn't get the one they wanted so they purchase another brand. Then they come on TW to point out all the shortcomings of the 3rd gen. Their opinion means absolutely nothing. I'm happy with mine, it does everything I ask of it. Easy to maneuver around parking lots, easier to wash vs 1/2 ton domestics, easier to reach into the bed or lift stuff in and out, and fits in the garage with room to spare, again vs the domestic 1/2 tons. I've owned multiple 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks so I have made direct comparisons. But you guys who own one already know all of this. Maybe I should go on some other forums and point out all their faults-then again, f that I don't have that many years of time to waste! Lol!

I'm getting too old to worry about shit like this. With my poor life choices, my 3rd Gen will probably outlive me. If not, I'll buy a plant based vehicle that I'm sure is coming.
