They'll probably have more gear hunting on this one to keep it at the highest mpgs.

I think the biggest barrier to the 4th gen appeal for me is the price tags I’m anticipating seeing. I got a decent deal on my truck but still feel it’s overpriced for what it is. My owner experience has been good overall but I relate to many of the typical 3rd gen frustrations. I honestly think the 4th gen could solve a lot of these issues and after the initial kinks are worked out in a few years could be a great truck. Again, I don’t think I’ll be able to justify 45k+ for low/mid level trim truck tho.

Hopefully they tune it to cruise no lower than 1700 rpm where it’s making big torque already, not tune it to run at 1100rpm around town and on the highway.

As tempting as it will be to have a Tacoma with 4 disc brakes, I'm just driving what I have.

Next truck will be a Tundra.
Not having a truck with a 4 cylinder, don't care what they jam in it.

Fuck it! I paired my 4R up with a 2023 M/T TRD OR. It's good enough for what I need without all the tech that I do not want. Loving it so far. Believe me I gave it a lot of thought before I finally pulled the trigger to get another 3rd gen knowing the 4th was around the corner.

I took my 22' in several times to the dealer over the auto trans. I was told they had never went on a ride-along with a Tacoma owner and never have complaints like mine. That was hard to believe. The service manager told me that Tacoma's wouldn't sell if there was a problem. He then told me any issues I am having(mostly a low RPM shudder) was the road I was on, not the truck. I'm holding out until I see the 4th gen on the lot but I'm very curious if the 8 speed auto has the "Flex Lock" feature and if they really fixed anything on how it shifts. The rest of the truck is GREAT! If I'm the only person with a complaint no wonder they took so long to address any upgrades.

Sheldon (head engineer on this one) said that one of their top priorities for this truck was focusing on drivability/reducing gear hunting, because they listened to all of the feedback on the 3rd gen.

I just test drove the new Tundra with the 10 speed, while I could (barely) tell it was firing off shifts rapidly it really wasn't bothersome. This is because of all that low end turbo torque keeps it moving.
The reason it sucked so much in the 3rd gen was the wide gear spacing and gutless 3.5 struggling to move the truck at low RPM.

1996 is the year to have.

Newfangled LED headlights? No thanks, I'll take sealed beams that I can't see 5 feet down the road with, but they are tried and true

I like the I-Force Max for the 326 hp and 465 ft-lbs torque @ 1700 rpm because who doesn't love going to ludicrous speed?
