I'm skimming through the manual and I think I've got a sudden case of ignorance, but I don't seem to be able to find the recommended oil change interval.

I'm using non-synthetic, just regular oil. Could someone kindly enlighten me?

    Thank you in advance!

Miles. It's really subjective. I'm not expert, but it seems logical to do it more often than not. Oil is cheaper than neglected extended OIC intervals repairs. If you really want good results, follow OEM recommended intervals found in your owners manual.

Many manufacturers recommend waaaay to long of oil change intervals. It sells cars but recently has proven that modern low tension oil rings will/are gumming up and creating oil consumption issues. Toyota has quite a few otherwise excellent engines that prematurely are burning massive amounts of oil. They would otherwise be perfectly fine.

    More is gooder"

    None... yet.
Given the quality of most oil these days, I think every 5k miles is good for daily driver. I've submitted numerous oil samples for analysis from a multitude of vehicles, including my Tacoma, and they've all come back with a good rating. If I were putting the truck under stress on a regular basis (towing, serious off-roading), I might shorten the interval...

Well for one using non-synthetic oil is highly not recommended whatsoever, and if you’re going to stick with conventional oil, it’s every 3000 miles if you go with synthetic it’s 5000 miles

Who says conventional oil is not recommended?

I run Rotella or Delo 15w-40 conventional with 5k mile intervals with 0 issues and just rolled 305K. Also have run the same oil in anything with a motor that I own other than my wife's vehicle for the past 15 years.

    I’m at 170,000 miles.
I used standard non-synthetic oil for the first 160,000.
I change mine every 5,000 miles.

The only reason I went to synthetic blend was because I couldn’t find regular oil the last time I changed the oil.

Neither the 2.7 or the 4.0 are picky about oil type. You could probably run anything from 0w-20 to 20w50. But the best choice is what the manual calls for.
Which is 5w-30 for the 4.0.

I run synthetic and change every 10K. Did the same in my '99 Tacoma that just turned over 250K and doesn't burn oil.

I change my oil when the maint light comes on my dash. I also use synthetic oil and an OEM filter. and any time my hood is open I check that oil. to make sure my level is good.

now my grandfather and old guy use to change his oil with conventional every 5k. if it showed a 5, or a 0 in the thousand line he knew it was time to drain and refill it. Like me hood was open he checked that oil.

Synthetic oil, change every 8-10K, (depending on length of time) never had to add oil between changes, and it is not low. I get a Blackstone analysis every three years and life is good.

I do mine as often as every 3k synthetic. It is a vehicle I plan on lasting.

automakers are in the business of selling cars. Their plan is neglect and the vehicle falling apart after warranty expires so you buy a new one. Google it.

people spend $400k+ on a house then shit their pants over an oil jug. To each his own.
Or buy a 1st gen for $7k instead of 2nd gen for $18k and have enough money for oil.

2nd gen has enough crap to deal with now; service rear axle seals, bearings, drum brakes, TOB, etc.
I’m not about to intentionally add more problems by fucking up an oil change

My engine internals are clean enough to eat off of.

If that’s not enough for you, figure out a schedule, then send your oil out for an analysis. They will tell you, scientifically, if your OCI policy is trash or not based on the amount of wear metals.
Which I’d say isn’t even needed to come to the conclusion you should start with not using 1950 Dino oil.

3k full synthetic. Unnecessary, waste of money, sounds about right. Just makes me sleep better at night, plus how can my truck not enjoy basically clean oil all the time.

Because maintenance intervals aren't in the manual :p They're in the warranty & maintenance booklet. If you don't have a hardcopy, download it from Toyota's web site. Follow the booklet, not random fuckers on the internet (us).

I use synthetic with an OEM filter, changed ever 5k miles or 4 months whichever comes first. Oil is cheaper than steel

Just since this thread is at the top of the list, but how long in terms of time can you go between oil changes? I don’t drive my truck much so would probably not hit a 5k mile interval in a year or more.
