Are there helper "springs" for tacoma that allow full wheel travel like the airlift bags?

    Hi,
I had a set of airlift airbags on my last car that I could add pressure to when I needed more spring rate due to load.
They were nice in that when the truck was empty I didnt ride stiff and when it was loaded with a dirtbike I didnt sag.
I see I can add an add-a-leaf helper spring, or sumo things, or Timbren things, but they all seem to only come into play after the vehicle sags enough to hit them, and they will always change spring rate whether the truck is loaded or not.
The airbags i have found are travel limiting.
Does anyone know of anything else?

    Thanks.
Does anyone know of anything that is easily adjustable for varying loads?

I've used Firestone airbags with Daystar cradles on my last two Tacomas. They give you the adjustability you want and you don't lose any down travel.

So you can 4x4 fine with the bags?
I was under the impression that off roading was a no-no with bags?

Daystar cradles are a cup the bottom of the airbag rests in instead of being attached. This allows the bottom of the airbag to float instead of stretching the bag.

Here is mine with PacBrake airbags crossing a ditch. You can see the air under the bag.

So you keep your droop and can add as much psi as necessary to increase load handling? Do they interfere with upward travel with no pressure in them or are they like a soft bump stop?

Pacbrake requires minimum 10psi in the bags and I'm running a Dakar HD leaf pack with OME nitrocharger shocks.

Droop isn't an issue (the OME shocks are the limiting factor for me) but with the thicker leaf pack and the airbags up travel I think is an issue for me. Something I'm starting to research and try to work out. I may remove a leaf and see if that helps. With 3" of lift, there isn't much up travel left in the OME shocks.

With the stock leaf pack that is roughly 1/2 the thickness of the Dakars. I don't think you'll have an issue.

I'm usually running the truck maxed out on weight and run 20psi.

The day stars work very well for off-roading.

I use airlift air springs with internal bumpstops over daystar cradles.
works great offroad as well as on road

Another happy user of Firestone Bags with Daystar Cradles. Love them. I even have the remote compressor wired in so I can control PSI in the bags on the fly with an app. Truck sees tons of wheeling.

I thought a remote pump would be nice, but when not turned on do they close the lines to keep air from sloshing back and forth between both sides when you go around corners? I didn’t know about that at first and put a T-Connector between mine so I could fill both at the same time and they would have even pressure - so I thought- but when you turn a corner, the outside turn bag gets compressed and fills the inside bag if their lines are connected-which will make your truck tip outward on a turn even more. A big mistake!

for manual filling like mine, I just use a small bicycle hand pump I keep in the truck and have two connectors, one for each airbag, so the air doesn’t slosh between the two bags while driving, but I also equalize the pressure after filling them by using a short hose with quick connects on both ends. I just attach it to both connectors after I fill the bags up to let the air pressure equalize between them before putting the caps back on.

The bags aren’t plummbed together. Two seperate lines and connections, two separate sensors.

Wow, that is super helpful, thank you all very much!

I have two Schrader valves in my bumper and use a bicycle pump.

Four or five pumps is all it needs to get from 0 to 20psi.

Hey all, this really is very helpful! I've already done an AAL, and just don't want to lay out the big $$ for a custom set of springs right now....especially if I put on a trailer or other accesories, and it starts to sag again.
