Now that’s a cool wagon. A 1964 Pontiac Catalina Safari wagon. Those came with a 389 just as the GTO of that year. Which happened to be the first year for the GTO. Although the GTO had the Tri Power [3 two barrel carbs] setup. Super rare wagon today.

 

My favorite year GTO is '64.
I had one with a Tri-Power setup, but not all had that option.
Many were equipped with a single Carter AFB.

 

Yep, definitely one of my favorites as well. I had a ‘69 Ram Air IV. I just found out that a lady coworker of mine just inherited a ‘64 red on red 389 tri-power 4-speed from her grandmother who was the original owner. She won’t sell it.

 

That’s sweet, clone or not. I’d take it.

Coincidentally I just had a conversation with my brother about vehicles over the years that some considered muscle cars but actually had little power. He brought up the Mustang II as we both laughed.

This is what Ford should have released with a slight de-tune of course. Good old smog years.

 

had a few of these chats in my life, I include the ford Mavrick and things like the LTD II things that have a solid line but were defiantly neutered. but could all have been solid options.

My '64 GTO convert was black on white with a black interior, 389 four barrel, four speed. Some of them had a 421, pretty sure it was a special order. The 421 was officially claiming just over 400 horsepower but Motor Trend did their own calculations and said it was closer to 465.

Nice Tempest. The 421 never came in any GTO’s. They were special ordered drag motors in Catalina’s and Venturas. A beast of a motor that really wasn’t meant for the streets.
