I am very impressed by the specs, horsepower and available manual on the 2024 Taco.
I think I would order just RWD for better fuel economy and lower price point. How has traction been for you current Taco owners? Thanks

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Traction is rarely the issue. The surface can be problematic I assume.

My RWD traction is about as good as any other car on the road from what i can tell.
Although one time i was trying to drive up a vertical cliff wall, about 1000ft, i made it half way and started sliding back down so i had to think fast and implement some UFO technology that i helped reverse engineer for the deep state some years ago. So, RWD doesn't have good traction on vertical cliffs, but roads are fine.

I was on a sand-wash road that in heavy rains is just a wide stream of varying depth. For grins and giggles I turned off 4WD-Hi on a "just sand" section. Rear wheels skipped badly with assorted crunching and groaning noises. Clearly in "just sand" 4WD is an advantage. The same in mud or other gooey surfaces, especially with inclines up or down.

Not to say that 2WD was completely useless on the drier some-rocks-for-traction sections of roads, but many low-traction places are helped by 4WD.

With the simulated LSD, it really sucks, especially in wet, soft ground. Recipe for stalling the engine.

Thanks. I will be doing little off road driving so bogging down is less of an issue for me. It will be my daily driver which will carry my trail bicycle in the back. If it is very snowy out, I will just stay home. I may eventually get a 6' cap and put a bed in the back for road trips or "camping." The 2024 has 69 HP more in SR/SR5 trim and will be quicker with (hopefully) equal or even better fuel economy. The interior, looks and general improvements are impressive. I may even get an automatic which will be a first for me. I am renting a Taco tomorrow to see how I like driving it and the general feel of it. I will then cancel my 2023, five month old, VW GTI order. The 24 seems to address all my concerns when I built a 23 a few months ago.
    Thanks. LOL!

Sounds like you don't need a truck at all

Is there a specific reason for having a truck which is better then another? It will fit my bike in the back, has a higher seating position and strikes a reasonable fuel economy/performance balance. It could work for me

I’m not sure about the 4th gen, but the AutoLSD traction mode on the 3rd gen is basically TRAC on and VSC off and it does not cut throttle. It’s good for getting out of an icy parking spot or intersection, but pales in comparison to 4wd.

If you combine it with good tires and weight in the bed, you can get around town when the roads are covered in snow.

It's a lot of car and not that great on gas for just hauling a single bicycle. If you're looking at a 3rd gen, they have a lot of quirks and arent the best ride quality and have a lot of cabin noise esp on the highway. Brakes could be better etc etc. It's a utility vehicle.

If you're looking at a 4th gen, dont waste your time test driving or renting a 3rd gen as it wont even be close to being similar to a 4th gen.

I have a Tacoma instead of a Corolla because I want to drive off-roads in marginal but still not rock-crawling conditions ... it is still my daily driver. If I just wanted cargo room with better AWD/4WD than Corolla I would probably get a Forester or Outback for the 30 MPG. Subaru is not recommended as serious off-roader but goes further than street-oriented cars.

I suspect 90+% of pickup owners don’t really need one (myself included). I bought a pickup because I had a boat to tow, but I no longer have the boat. I still use it for off road activities.

Pickups (and SUVs) have become a fashion statement in the US. There are a number of articles and videos on the subject online. Here’s a rather harsh one:

I would never even consider buying a RWD truck unless maybe it had a mechanical limited slip or locker and I lived somewhere it doesn’t snow. Even then… dicey.

4x4 is necessary for so many mild situations. Snow, gravel, wet grass, even just gently pulling up a steep paved driveway without launching into a closed garage door.

That’s not to mention the resale value and the savings you get on recovery costs.

In my opinion, it's worth the extra cost for a 4x4. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

That's a long ass video for a Karen rant over pick ups and SUV. You could substitute performance EV for about every point being made about BOF in that video.

The Maverick, Ridgeline, or Crosstrek could realistically handle most people's BOF truck and SUV use.

As an urban dwelling pickup owner, that video was hard to watch, but it made some good points. Personally I do use the bed of my truck for dirty crap like muddy traction boards, gas cans, spare tires, garbage, and other crap I’d rather not have in the cab with me, but I could probably make due without a bed.
