I got this bumper made in December… had the guy “powder coat” it. Drive thru Utah on the way to my school in Idaho. Utah salts the freeway in winter but it was literally on the salt for maybe 2 hours. Turns out bumper had instantly oxidized/rusted. keep in mind this happened about a month after it was made. Anything I can do to remove it or save it… or do I have to strip and re-paint? (pictures are after I washed it so it’s a bit wet)D558DE01-2588-48F1-97C0-EFD2DD3EBBEE.jpg4E8382DA-77AE-47F2-BA04-FA56791ED65A.jpg

Looks like it was applied too thin, or poor surface prep, maybe not cured correctly. There is no saving it. Might consider just painting with a good tractor paint. Taking it down to bare metal & priming would be ideal.

Looks like a quality built bumper. A shame the finish failed.

My experience with having items PC'd, is once it gets chipped or cracked and the metal starts to rust, that rust permeates under the coating breaking the bond. Then coating starts pealing off. Those effects can be mitigated to some degree with a quality job to begin with and by keeping problem areas waxed or oiled.

I had trailer wheels coated a dozen years ago that still look great. Contrast that to my not quite 7 year old bush hog that I dented the deck 2 seasons ago on a stump....now 6"-8" on both sides of dent are flaking off.

Yes, powder coating is a durable wear resistant finish, and certainly has its place. But for me, paint usually easier, cheaper and can be touched up.
