There's a lot of talk of mics in this thread even for third gens it seems different pre and post-2019, guess I'll keep searching to see what I need!

 

As a matter of fact yes I did. When I first installed it I did a test calling my office to leave a VM. When I listened to it, it was horrible. I sounded like a robot. Did the same test with the mic that came with the HU and it was much better. Just sent the Enfig mic back today.

 

What lighting are you using in the domes?

So I started the install today and after what I thought was a good connection on everything... I have the dreaded connectors left over.

I assume the grey is for the USB (and

$9 AX-TOYUSB - USB-Auxilliary Retention Harness - USB adaptor to retain the OE USB in select Toyota vehicles

AX-TOYUSB doesn't fit but anyway) but the rest look.. important. EDIT: So I've narrowed 3 of the 4 down: the long thin black connector goes to the factory nav as does the light blue connector. I'm not sure what these actually connect to -- compass perhaps -- but my functionality seems fine. The light grey connector is the USB. I'm not sure what the last longer black connector is. Oh, one of these is probably HomeLink? I never considered that I might lose HomeLink.

Any idea what I've missed?



My 360 camera is also acting weird. When I hit "camera view" it shows black:



But when I'm in reverse it shows the reverse camera and the 360 view:



The manual explicitly says "Camera controls (with vehicle in reverse)" for the 360 camera... does it really only let you use the front camera and 360 if the vehicle is in reverse?

 

Yea that USB adapter seems to be for older Tacoma's. I ran into the same issue. So I ordered the iDatalink UTO3

ACC-USB-TO3 from Crutchfield and it worked perfectly.

A few things that worried me when i was getting ready to install that turned out to be no big deal. Some answers were found on this page but i figured id share my experience and helpful information and tips. For starters you don't need any of the kits mentioned on Critchfield as part of the install. You can use the stock brackets with very little modification. Like the OP mentioned. Do the following on the side of the pioneer screen bracket you will see 4 holes lined up. Use the last hole marked N to mount the factory brackets to it. You'll need to grind down the little nub on the factory bracket to get it to sit flat in in this spot. I used a metal file to file down the nub fairly flat. Then you will need to open up the rear most holes a bit to be able to get the brain unit to screw on. I put this in a clamp and used a drill bit for metal to open it up. I did not need to drill a third hole in mine as i used my drill to tighten everything up nice. Brackets were my first concern. Second concern the blue wire on the antenna adapter. That's easy the harness came with a connector on the end of a blue wire but i ended just using a t connector to hook up the the ANT power. Third concern was I'm not bright and didn't read the wiring guide well enough to see the whole OR statement on the wiring guide. So here is a dumbed down version if you bought what i bought (Specifically the ACC-HU-PIO1)


As for my questions. Does anyone have any tips on how to install the USB + HDMI Socket. Also can anyone help my troubleshoot why my AUX connection isn't working. I currently could only find two connections not plugged in those being the SAT/GPS ones. I also have that iDatalink Stereo Miniplug-to-RCA Adapter but couldn't find anything to plug it into. Also does anyone know how to better customize the gauges? I want to use a gauge on the home screen but my only option is RPMs. I'd rather have Active MPG.

 

For the little nubs I found a drill bit from the concave side worked quickly and easily rather than filing or grinding it off on the convex side. Also enables 0.00001 grams of extra payload with the material removed

 

Man I really wish someone made a plug and play kit for this head unit. I keep deciding between the trail grid pro Sony 9500es/ xav6000. Then remember I have this thread saved on my phone. The fit and finish on these installs look great but reading through all the pages makes me feel hesitant. Not that mechanically included when it comes to electrical stuff. Can someone direct me to a page with all the necessary parts to buy and step by step instructions? 2017 or manual

 

It’s really not that hard and it’s 98% plug and play if you get the adapter harness. And if you have issues, folks here are pretty helpful.

Finally got my radio in yesterday. I was fortunate to have most of the wiring in there due to my last radio which was a pioneer avic-w8500nex. Basically the main harness was exactly the same so I left that alone the and secondary AV output and speaker harness I did have to swap. I also was able to reuse my maestro and other connectors. So after an initial reflash of the maestro and testing out the radio the volume was super low. I've ran into this before I the past for other radios but always fixed the issue within an hour. With this issue it took me awhile to figure out the issue and it was super annoying. In the end all it was was I needed to reset and reflash my maestro a second time.
But yeah thanks to all who contributed to this thread. A lot of useful info. My most valuable resource was mounting the brackets. I drilled exactly like one of the pictures I saw from a post and was able to mount the radio right up. Love this big screen.

 

just got the sony 9500es kinda of disappointed with the floating look. Looking at crutchfield. This kit looks pretty much plug and play...some modification to the bracket. but it looks like zero splicing is required. I have a 2021 tacoma SR5. Is what im gathering right? Just need to tap then antenna? Snip below of my cart...and one small box snip of something that didnt show up in the snip (the idatalink cable to mate the pioneer HU to the Maestro unit)

 

Alright I have a weird one gang.. I got it all installed today was working fine and then I just took a drive for 4 minutes and noticed the volume randomly going up and down and when you try to change the volume yourself, it shows up on the screen greyed out. I’ve double checked all the connections. The weird thing, when I turn the steering wheel it seems to exaggerate the issue.

Anyone know what the black 28 pin connector is? I don’t see a place to connect it on the maestro unit.
What about the single wire blue connector?

If anyone has the intermittent connectivity problem with wireless CarPlay, I have found a workaround to having to turn BT off/on again.

press the button with the 4 squares icon, choose ipod. It’ll connect after 1-2 seconds then you can go into CarPlay
