Hi all, I recently had the AMP Powersteps installed, and now I have a rattle that sounds like it is coming from in front of the driver. It doesn't sound like it is the steps themselves, but I was hoping someone could help me.

    Video/sound here.

Will it do it in park or does it need to be in gear?

If it wasn't there before AMP step install, and there now. It's the step, sounds like it's bouncing off body. Step on it and it will lock down in down position and see if it goes away.

It does need to be in gear for it to happen and I can't reproduce the sound by shaking the truck or jumping on the step.

The sound is not consistent - meaning I can come to a stop and the rattle happens, but if I let off the brake and move up a little bit it'll typically go away. That makes me think it's not the step itself, but I'll try driving it tomorrow with the step down to see if it still happens.

I did drive it this morning with the step out and there was no change in the frequency or volume of the noise so it must be something else.

Just a hunch. sounds like an electrical short causing the step motor to momentarily on and off .

That's what it sounds like in this video. Power step motor running/grinding.

I appreciate you both. Apologies for my ignorance, but how would I test it out to see if this is the issue?

Is there a fuse for the steps, or some way to disconnect power to them?
Kill the power, drive around. Does the noise still occur?

I did locate the fuse and pulled it. Drove around and unfortunately that was not the issue - still the same rattle.

I'm taking it back to the install shop next week - they've not been great but hopefully it'll get taken care of. I have misophonia and repetitive noises like that rattle cause incredible anxiety.
