Reno and surrounding areas: Official spotted, BS, and meets thread

Anyone been on 50 recently, specifically by the spooner summit trailhead? Is there a fuck ton of snow still or is it disappearing quickly?

 

It's melting quick. I drove past on the 17th and the field at spooner on 28 side was all green grass.

 

Thanks for the beta! We are camping at zephyr next weekend but still need to train so I want to hit up that trail.

Yeah, but a different part.
In April we drove 50 to Ely and then camped at Cathedral Gorge State Park.

 

I love that drive for some reason.

 

Second time I have done it. Cloudy this time, less vibrant colors. But still a spectacular part of this country.

Train for what?

 

60k in July. It has like 7k of climbing or something stupid. It's a different course this year so I don't remember exactly.

 

Gotcha. Yeah, that's gonna require some training. I hope you get it done but damn that's a long way to run. lol

 

Yeah, it's a ways to go but I enjoy moving through the mountains. I'll complain the day of lol.

 

For sure. It's always good to set some goals in whatever sport your into. Who knows, in 5 years you may be running 100 mile Ultra's.

About mountains. I live where I live because of them. I cannot and will not live without them. There's something that's hard to explain about how they draw you in. I doubt I have to explain it to you though. lol

Muir's classic quote "The mountains are calling and I must go" was pretty spot on. My favorite quote about them is from the Russian alpinist Anatoli Boukreev. It goes like this:

"Mountains are not stadiums where I satisfy my ambition to achieve. They are cathedrals where I practice my religion."

 

Both great quotes and Muirs literally goes through my head most mornings when I leave to run!

When climbing high, he would drop down to "green" to recover before summit day. Sad to have lost him.

 

What he did during the 96 Everest disaster is truly amazing. Why Krakauer decided to villianize him in Into Thin Air is beyond me.

My chiropractor used to climb with Scott.

 

Running through the mountains might suck less, but I don't know. If anyone sees me running, you should run, because things have gone bad.
