Even the non-hybrid outperforms the outgoing v6 in torque and horsepower. And makes the torque at a lower RPM.

The MSRP is about 3k more than a TRD OR MSRP. You can easily get 3-5k off the F-150, they are usually listed at the discounted price. You might be able to negotiate for more, but I doubt any dealer is going to go much lower. The more desirable options that make a truck more capable are also going to see less of a discount, and sell much quicker.

Back in 2021, you could an XLT 302A super crew 3.5 145" WB FX4 heavy duty pay load, maxtow plus other options MSRP was the same as a TRD Pro Tacoma plus mark up. You could also get a little bit off MSRP. Prices on both of those trucks have since gone up.

You can also order through dealers who sell below invoice, or go through discount pricing plans.

Fullsize trucks are always going to MSRP higher than midsize trucks. Midsize trucks usually won't be marked down as much as 1/2 ton trucks. Seems to be an average of an 8-10k price difference between similarly equipped midsize to 1/2 ton trucks trim for trim.

Domestic manufacturers produce an abundance of 1/2 tons compared to midsize trucks and only Ford and GM sell a midsize. Toyota builds an abundance of midsize trucks compared to 1/2 tons, and they have no problem selling Tacomas.

That’s a lot of words for the really important part: “Seems to be an average of an 8-10k price difference between similarly equipped midsize to 1/2 ton trucks trim for trim.”

so yeah, you’re going to pay a LOT more for a similarly equipped 1/2ton

This is a losing argument from the start, because of the assumed discount but MOSTLY because you fail to recognize that even if you did achieve the same price point, then you'd end up with a ford or GM...

You could have researched it more before writing that. It doesn't use the typical Toyota eCVT but it has regenerative braking and should function like a typical Toyota hybrid overall. Obviously, we can't expect stellar MPG with a high clearance vehicle and big tires. The main concern seems to be turbo longevity, an unknown at this point, save for some glitches with Tundra i-FORCE Max engines. They are hopefully learning what breaks and preventing it as manufacturing goes along.

I will consider the 4th gen Taco when the time is right for me. Right now my 17' is at 84K miles and she is very stout. Could not justify the financial hit to upgrade yet.

When the time does come for me to upgrade, the hybrid will not even be a consideration. The power gains are marginalized by an extra 500lbs of weight. Factor that in with loss of storage in the cab and potential issues with have an extra system on the car (hybrid battery) and I just don't think the hybrid is worth it on this particular vehicle.

I look forward to seeing the turbochargers demonstrate their longevity. I'm in the camp that the turbos should last a really long time with proper maintenance.

I agree with you - A hybrid drivetrain is not attractive. I want simplicity and reliability. A 4 banger turbo in a truck application is the exact opposite. I was hoping full EV but I'll wait - killing time with my lovely Taco to see who comes up with a full EV alternative. A simple off road capable one with V2G capability... please.

We've replaced all other cars with full EVs - and these get fueled by the sunshine falling on my roof.
    :dancingbacon:

It would be utterly ridiculous to even consider going back to anything ICE (hybrid included) - just as silly as going back to a land line phone!

The all ICE 4th Gen option is not attractive. Same power (basically) from an untested 4 banger on a heavier vehicle. If this was my choice; I would find it hard to find a good reason to spend MORE of my money on that and not a 3rd gen...

I still need to go out and test drive the 4th gen and check them out... but keeping my 21 (@ 20k miles) is a no brainer in the interim

IMHO 2024+ Toyota USA is a joke.

They don’t care about anything but their profit. Sad.

That is most companies. At my local grocer bottom of the barrel ribeye sells for $20 a pound on a regular day. Weekend sale for memorial day it was $9 a pound. We are getting screwed. You can get hormone free grass fed beef $16 a pound for ribeye at local butchers. Beats the grocery store's $24 a pound for their equivalent.

    Yep.

I get my chicken, pork, beef, eggs, etc only from local farms. Fish from local lakes.

Been doing this for quite some time.

Me and my lady are youngins. Took us a minute to get our heads straight. We are strict with our purchasing these days. Saving money, better quality food, and supporting local infrastructure is an all around win in my book.

    Nice!

Once you get used to eating local free range, it’s impossible to go back to supermarket garbage. I do go to Cosco because they actually do have very good quality European foods at great prices. Also New Zealand lamb and bison is good there but I don’t get any other meat from there.

From my experience It’s not always cheaper to buy free range meats but it’s 100 times better for you so definitely worth it because diet is extremely important. For me anyway. And yes like you said it supports local. Win/win

I get Lamb from Aldi's, surprisingly good for a budget supermarket.

Aldi's owns Trader Joes and the same meats you get at Traders Joes comes from the same suppliers as Aldi's as well as a lot of other items. They just change the labels. i get rib eye steaks from Aldis and they are very good.
