Range is a big deal for me since I average 1000 km a week for work. Truck is a work vehicle but mostly highway on the odometer. Increasing fuel economy saves me money but if they cut the rank size it won’t save me time. And since time is money well…. I can average 700 km to a tank spring-summer-fall, sometimes hitting 800+. The added hybrid option I would hope to put a new truck closing in on 1000 km tank range for my old man driving habits.

Kudos for you hitting your current mileage… but 1000km per tank is ~32 mpg. I’m not optimistic.

Entire reason I got a full size with the small diesel. I drive around 550 miles (880 km) a week, so tank size and economy were a big deal to me. I get around 27mpg (11.5 km/l) now. I’d prefer something smaller, but I can’t beat this economy with the capability.

Keeping my eye on these PHEV deals tho when my warranty runs out. If they have decent economy, the kids will be out of my truck by then (at least, all three won’t have to be in at the same time).

this is where I wish Toyota put in a larger tank on the LB. Getting 24mpg if you stay under 70 is pretty easy on trips, heck I can get over 12mpg consistently towing a 5klb brick if I stay under 65mph.

Trying to keep up with the flood of posts, but can anyone verify if the TRD Off-Road is going to have "just" the 8-inch infotainment unit in the center?

Driving.ca is saying that's the size (but still with the larger 12.3" gauge cluster behind the steering wheel) but nothing I can find from Toyota spells that out. From the photographs, it appears the Sport gets the big screen (and obviously the Limited, Pro, and TH get it too) but absent an actual OR being photographed, I'm not certain.

I did find a photograph of the Pre-Runner interior (Available in the USA only, BTW) with the big cluster and small screen, which actually looks better to me.

Prerunner does look good. Needs a stick though and a bunch of chrome delete.

From what I have heard there will be an option for the smaller screen. And no the off road has not been photographed , they didn't even build one for Hawaii. I think they had some test off roads but they were beat to shit

I wouldn't be surprised if they tie the larger 14 inch screen into a package with the JBL system. I was worried Toyota would play their typical game of giving lower end models a comically small screen with giant bezels to push the upsell, but the way the 8 inch screen appears in the 4th gen should be perfectly fine with me. Still has large bezels, but overall looks decent.

Why is Toyota *still* unable to supply the dealers with surplus vehicles (i.e. ones that aren’t sold before they’re even built, or sold right off the carrier) while most of the rest of the AutoMakers’ dealers have overflowing lots?

Because Tacomas and many other Toyota vehicles are wildly popular?

My understanding is that Toyota didn't take as much of a hit from the Covid chip shortage as some manufacturers, especially Honda, did (although stories about people only getting one Smart key suggest they weren't completely immune) but things did slow down.
So, I think you are simply seeing the results of some serious pent-up demand. While Toyota's overall sales dropped about 10% for 2022 versus 2021, December showed a slight increase year over year, and that trend seems to be continuing into 2023.

What I thought was interesting was that 4Runner sales dropped by 16.6% year/year but fell over 50% in December 2022 versus 2021. (Tacomas were up 7.4% and Tundras +166% in December). I wonder if that will encourage them to bring out the 6th Gen sooner than later...the 4R is getting very dated.

Yotas were highly sought-after vehicles long before Covid, and they always managed to keep up.

I wonder if the shortage (or maybe it’s now a “shortage”) results in higher profits for the company.

Nothing will change with regard to the 6th gen 4Runner. They’re still selling like hot cakes in the current gen. I have no data to support this. Simply my hands on experience over the last couple months while shopping for one myself. As a buyer it’s tough to negotiate when vehicles that aren’t pre sold spend less than a week on lots.

I doubt if there will be a 2024 4Runner, it would still be a 5th gen. I can't see people paying more for a 4R, when the 4th gen Tacoma is available from Toyota. Demand for the current 4R is pretty much nonexistent, compared to other Toyota vehicles. There are three new BOF trucks available from Toyota in 24, the Grand Highlander, and the GX which offers more of what the 5th gen 4R offers for people who would consider buying a 2024 4R.

Toyota heads who want to show off aren't buying a 4R that hasn't seen a refresh since 2009. Not when there's a new Tacoma. 4R might still be produced for other markets, but I can't see Toyota building a US spec version along with the other global market versions. Toyota has been wanting to drop the vehicle from their US line up for sometime, and that time is now.

Toyota has been very quite about what they are doing with the 4R in the US. I expect to see the news that 4R has been discontinued. When Toyota announces 2024 vehicle changes and pricing.

There's a slim chance that 5th gen 4R could carrying on for 2024, and be dropped in 2025. I doubt Toyota will go that far. Better to do it now while the Tacoma is in the spot light, then roll out 6g 4R.

Toyota is not going to disco the ‘Runner. You could bet money on that

I think the 5th gen is done, but the current GX would probably go with it.

It's a very low volume vehicle which does sell, but they aren't building many of them. Many of them get driven by the dealership and sold as demo vehicles, or end up in the service rental fleet. 5th gen is going the way of the FJ and its clamshell rear doors.

There wasn't nothing said about 4R in any video from the 4g reveal, as if it did not exist.
