    Nope. Something i really liked about visiting my family in NJ (Suck it @Gritto) in summers as a kid. Catching them in a jar was awesome for this CA kid.

    My whole life, Will, I just assumed the whole world knew what lightning bugs were and everyone had them. It just never occurred to me that they were vastly unexperienced by humanity! Lo and behold, not only are they only in the US, but they're not even in the entire US!

    Reporting in from east central Kansas. We have them here but in nowhere near the numbers of 20 or 30 years ago. Summer evenings when I was a kid we used to see them by the thousands but no more. My understanding is light pollution and the increasing use of pesticides has decreased the number of them significantly.
