    Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma regular cab 2 wheel rear drive. I purchase the truck with 21,000 miles and it now has 55,000 miles. The problem is as soon as I press the clutch an inch or so, I hear this winding noise. It has been like that since I purchase the truck. I do not think is it the throw out bearing. Could it be the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, where is the clutch master cylinder reservoir? Is the Brake master cylinder reservoir the same for the clutch master cylinder? Photos would be helpful. Many thanks for any help.
    George

Why do you think that? Because it almost certainly is. When you press the clutch pedal, the T/O bearing moves towards, then presses on, the clutch plate fingers. If it's dry, or wearing out, it'll make noise.

No, the cylinder are just... hydraulic cylinders. They don't spin, they're not even able to make noise except when your foot makes them move from one position to another.

There's a slim possibility one of them, or the hose, could've been the root cause, by holding pressure incorrectly so that the T/O bearing was in contact with the plate more than when you're on the clutch... but it doesn't sound like that's happening now, at least, since the noise starts when you press the pedal.

And yes, the clutch M/C shares the brake M/C reservoir, you'll see a ~1/2" hose coming from the lower outer part of the reservoir, which goes through the firewall & down to the clutch M/C.

Thank you both for your replies. I have a better understanding of the clutch operation. Again, many thanks to both of you!!!

Can you be more specific with the winding sound it makes? Might you mean “whining”? And any specific times it sounds better/worse?
