There are lots of videos on YT showing how to remove them.

For each cap, there are six widgets holding the cap to the bumper. Three on the bottom, two on the sides, and one that is really hidden from view.

IIRC, you can remove the tail-light lenses to get better access (for the tools) to remove the ones on the side, and there are some others you need to undo to pop up the rubber step piece. You definitely don't need to take the whole bumper apart.

However, that sixth clip is almost impossible to get back on (you just grab the butt-cheek and pull the thing off once you've undone the other five), and it looks like something you'd grate cheese with. It will just fall to the ground. The five you CAN replace are adequate to hold the new cap on.

The Xtracab makes it so incredibly impossible to reach things that I had to remove literally the entire interior just to get back there.

You might find it challenging to find an access cab elsewhere…..

No way the new “Xtra” cab beats the room and easy access of my SR Access Cab-Utility Package. I bought it as my retirement truck, love it and plan on keeping it.

Thought I read that the ExtraCab will be available as an SR, Sport and OR with 4wd and that they are just promoting the PreRunner at the press events. I think you are correct about no manual in the PreRunner (or DCLB :( )

If the ExtraCab is available in the off-road with 4wd, it would be a good package for me. I'll have to keep checking model info.

The rear portion of the XtraCab looks smaller than the AccessCab. Toyota might have expanded the front area of the cab to create more front passenger room. Could be another reason Toyota didn't add rear doors.

The Xtra Cab is said to be available in 4WD up to SR5 starting in early 2024, which means no locker and no MTS. When an E-locker or air locker swap has been figured out, it would be an acceptable configuration.

I'd like to see Toyota bring back the SR SX for the XtraCab. SR 4x4 rear locker black over fenders 33 Ats on black steel wheels, and vinyl floor.

I get the cost cutting part and eliminating seating, but I'm surprised Toyota didn't go with a 3 door here. At least give the driver easier access to the rear cab to load equipment or other gear.

Toyota cited tougher side impact requirements as a factor. What they could've done instead is adding a fixed B-pillar. Narrow access doors would've been ok if people doesn't need to get in the back.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
A pretty dumb idea from Toyota on that one. My 2016 TRD Off Road access cab is being loaded to the gills for an offroad fishing/camping trip. I still have my back seats, but I have a platform over them so I can store on top, and under that platform. Without the swingout doors, next to impossible to load up that back seat area. For this trip it will be loaded right up to the interior roof with large storage boxes.

I still use them on occasion for passengers too. Short about town trips for when we have visitors.

Yup, I figure the 2024 will boost the price of current access cabs.

Yup, garage is an issue if you use your garage for something other than just parking your vehicles.

I see a lot of photos on this forum of shiny clean empty garages so parking not an issue in those cases.

My garage is packed with tools and outdoor gear from floor to ceiling on all 3 sides, and it leaves me 2 inches behind my truck.

In my case, the shorter wheelbase also makes a big difference for all the deep washouts I traverse on deactivated forest service roads. On some trips I am going through 30 of those per day to get to my fishing lakes, so a lot of harsh bumper dragging. That alone was my main reason for going access cab. I have been doing this for 40 years now and the trails I am on impact what I drive. I would own a Jeep for my offroad driving if they were not so cramped for storage. I could not drive a full size domestic truck on my trails. Did that in past decades, and it just does not work. So many trails are truck width, and then the numerous washouts. Smaller is better for my terrain.

Looking at the cab, there might not be enough room to mount a clamshell door or
I was looking at the proportions of the cab. The fixed B pillar and forward opening door might have taken up too much room while not gaining much accessibility to the rear of the cab.

The DC rear doors are pretty short to begin with pressuming both cabs will share the same doors in the front. The front doors on the new truck look longer than on the 3rd gen.

I thought Toyota said the truck has the same cab width and when both doors are open those dimensions are the same as the outgoing model. The new XC cab might be shorter than the AC. Although I thought Toyota streched the cab forward.

I think how Toyota designed the new cab forward or rear opening, rear cab doors would not work as a functioning feature. The C pillar looks too narrow and up right to accommodate a clamshell door hinge, and allowing enough room for the door to open.
