Whats the consensus on the amount of fluid that comes out, and is put back in when doing this maintenance. Asking for a lazy guy ( me) who just wants to pull the plug and refill.

Check owners manual and then add 2 courts less than that check level and add as necessary.

I would avoid approximations when filling these transmissions. They are prone to shifting issues if not filled following the recommended procedure. It's a PIA for sure, but it's also the only way to be certain it's done correctly. That's my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth.

About 3+ quarts. Doesn’t the 3rd Gen simplify the temperature process.

    i did a spill & fill at 60k, doing another at 90k, 120k, etc.
Easy process, and there's good write ups about it on here.

Dont just measure what drains out and replace it.
Get it to the proper level with the OBD port jumper process (temp check mode).

Approximations are fine if dude performs the fluid check procedure properly at the correct temps. There should be a slow drip of ATF if the transmission is filled properly, it will not drip at all if there is not enough fluid and will gush out if overfilled.
