I grew up in north Louisiana (many years ago) and we called them crappie, not white perch.
But that was way back then, in the before time, in the long-long ago.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Nothing fancy for me. A 4" PVC strapped to a cargo bar. A medium action and ultralight rod both stored with rod socks. A small tackle bag strapped down by a bungee.
    20230529_115155.jpg

When I feel like fishing, I can just head out or stop if I see a piece of water that looks good. Its all kept secure under the cover.

Disclaimer: The cargo bar isn't ratcheted tight, so it doesn't press on the bed sides. The blue bungees keep the bar on place.

interesting! What part of the state were you in? Im in Jonesboro and all i've ever heard from the old timers is white perch. Technically its a misnomer, but i heard it from all the old fellas growing up and it stuck. And you dont have to go too far south of Ellick before theyre sacalait

My wife's grandson used to come down and visit us for a few weeks at a time before he went into the Air Force. We're in south Florida about 15 min from the intracoastal where there are piers set up, and he would spend the day out there. Everything I had stunk of fish - my truck (bed from his shit, cab from him!), my cooler, my freezer in the garage, and the inside of the house when he'd cook it up. Fishing has been banned in my house LOL

From the Monroe area. Late 1970's and early 1980's (I'm an old timer, too!) we spent many summer vacations fishing and water skiing in Lake Claiborne State Park and fishing in Toledo Bend Reservoir. We caught LOTS of crappie at Toledo Bend. Never caught any white perch!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Wow! No Kidding! I live in the desert in a nice home with a beautiful view. We love it here.

But, there was time we thought about moving back when I romanticize about a home on the water with a dock and a boat...walk out and fish whenever I feel like it.
But then I remember humidity, cottonmouths, mosquitos...oh my god the mosquitos!
And the rain (every 3 days on average!). I remember every conversation ending with, "...if it's not raining." :annoyed:

Not bashing your home:thumbsup:, we just chose something different. We have rattlesnakes everywhere, scorpions, etc. But I still go fishing in the mountains for trout...no mosquitos!

We used to fish, swim, and ski in the Ouachita River too because it was so convenient. Then I saw a gator swimming in it!!!!!!
That was the end of that...never got in that water again.

I remember floating on a raft in Bayou DeSiard during the summers! I think a family dog got eaten on the shoreline of that bayou by a gator every year! :goingcrazy::eek:
