I have a 3rd Gen Sport with stock 265/65R17 tires that need replacing. I just purchased the TRD SEMA wheels that are 17x7. All tires in that size seem to want a 7.5-9.5 rim width.

Can a 265/65R17 tire be mounted to this rim?

What are the disadvantages to mounting that tire size to a 7 inch wheel?

If I have to go up to a 265/70R17 tire to meet the 7 inch rim width recommendations, what will this do to the speedometer being a taller tire?

Thanks for any insight and guidance.

My truck came with those rims. Discount Tire mounted 265/65R17 to them no problem at all.

If you stepped up to 265/70R17, the speedometer would actually become more accurate but the odometer would begin under-reporting. The odometer is accurate in stock form and the speedo is a bit fast in stock form.

If you have mud flaps, 265/70R17 with that rim will rub slightly when turning while hitting a bump (driveways, rough roads, etc).

Here's a pic of mine the day I put 265/65R17 Toyo ATIIIs on the Sema rims. I have since swapped to stock 2020+ Sport rims.

@trlove some tires like BFG in a heavier ply rating do require a 7.5 to 9.5 but Falken and Toyo make the P rated tires that will fit the 7inch wide. That would be in the 265/65R17. Was there a specific tire that you where looking at?
