Has anyone seen fuel octane requirements?

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Lots of OE turbos do not.

    Depends on many variables.

My *guess* is no, because it would dampen sales.

Which means fairly low boost, small turbo to hit peak at low RPM and being well managed fuel, spark. Etc by the ECU

In the ford ecoboost manual it states on page 252, “For best overall vehicle and engine performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended."
Ford ecoboost 2.0 - The engine in your vehicle has been optimized for operation using 95 octane unleaded gasoline that meets the specification defined by EN 228 or the equivalent national specification.

Ford is a big market with ecoboost.

    I had a v8 with 10#s boost required 93 weird a small 4 cyl guess it’s 5# boost is ok in 87.
Don’t get stuck in the mud may blow it up.

Are you quoting a European manual? If so, that translates to 87 octane and up is fine and 91 will get you improved performance over 87.

It's not just the amount of boost; it's also controlling all the variables like timing, air/fuel ratio, etc. A modern ECU with all the accompanying sensors can handle a turbo and 87 octane. Putting 87 in an older car, even like 10-15 years old, would be a bad scene.

on toyota's usually in stock tune

87 will pull about 10 degrees of timing, 6-8 on 89, and 0-2 degrees on 91+ (i think, per someone else's post on another forum)

I viewed one of the Hawaii reveal videos and the gas cap was shown, the reporter noted regular 87 fuel. Case closed.

87 octane will result in reduced performance vs 93 in a turbocharged/supercharged motor. Sure, it may be rated to run on 87, but the engine management is going to pull timing and boost to prevent detonation.

Won't really be any benefit to run 93 in an 87 minimum engine. You'll basically spend more and possibly get slightly worse fuel milage.

2024 and Toyota still using gas caps, what is the world coming to?

It's not always about the money for some of us. The engine may run smoother and provide a slight bit more boost with premium. That's really the question here. Not whether or not premium is worth the price from purely an mpg perspective.

Well the gains are minimal was my point since these turbo engines that aren't high revving high HP usually have lower compression ratios. We will see.

    Depends on where you live.

Here in Colorado, using 85 in a turbo vehicle isn't the best idea per se.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJyd6C99_3g

Higher octane in a turbo engine is always welcomed, and has a noticeable impact no matter the altitude.

You won't notice it in a 2nd or 3rd gen Taco as those come from the factory with a 50hp delete here - or 90hp if you're at the Eisenhower tunnel!

Might be minimal, might not. My wife’s Mazda gives 30hp extra on premium per their official docs. That’s pretty significant
