Would rather have a regular cab with an 8 foot bed. Like the 1st Gen Tundra V6 with 6MT.

Beautiful truck. Reliable, uncomplicated work truck. That generation was only a little bit bigger than the current Tacoma too.

Perfect size truck, imo. Only thing I did not like about them was the dash, looked like a 90s Ford Taurus. As much as I like RCLBs, don’t think there is much of case for them as ACs are dead too. Like them but wouldn’t buy a RC, too spoiled with that extra space in my AC and Extra Cab that I had for the last 22+ years.

I Just looked and it looks like Frontier doesn't offer a rear locker on their king cab. The only 2024 trucks with 4WD and rear locker I can find from anyone are dual cabs.

I've heard rumours that Nissan will soon only the CCSB Pro-4x going forward. All other trims have been dropped.
Canada has had the KC Pro-4x for '22 & '23. For some reason we always get that setup from Nissan & Toyota.

According to this video the XtraCab is 2WD only, he says it at around the 6:30 mark. That'll really suck, if true. I have to agree with @SwollenGoat, if you have to step up to the DCLB just to get a 6' bed and 4WD, why not just buy a Tundra/F-150 and get a few extra inches of bed space. A SR Tundra is 43.7K msrp and a SR5 TRD OR is 51.5K, that's expensive but probably not too far off what the DCLB Tacoma will cost.

Since the Xtra Cab is available in the SR5 trim, assuming 4WD will be an option.

Was at the dealer getting my 30K service, there for 3 hours…lots of time looking over the Tundras, they don’t feel that much bigger than my 3rd Gen, honestly felt a little small. Looked at the DC and the CC, think I like the CC better. Bit bummed over the loss of AC, but after looking at the Tundras, believe I am over it. The B-Pillar doors were certainly easier to open than monkeying around with the clamshells. Do like that 14” informant screen too.

The SR Tundra does have the detuned engine, still has a 8000 lbs towing rating which is better than the Tacoma. Think the DC Tundra is the better buy over the DCLB Tacoma.

You can get a King Cab Frontier PRO-4X used. I bought one last month with 1.7k miles on it, and there's one for sale in Michigan now with similar miles.

Sheldon Brown must have seen my pics a couple years ago in "What have you done today to your 1st gen".

Found some 2003 Matrix buckets at the salvage yard. $50 for the pair in like new condition. Color even matched really well.

The more I read the more I believe Toyota has done me a favor. Initially I was interested in the 4th gen, but that has now been completely eliminated.

I'd probably get this configuration if the PreRunner was available with a manual transmission. I don't really need cab space. I actually had a couple rare 2nd Gen Tundra TRD Off Roads in essentially this configuration. Technically they were "regular cabs", but there was a huge cargo area behind the seats and the passenger seat folded down.

If you have space behind the seats, you need to access it. DOORS!
    I had a 97 xtra cab for 20 years.
I hated having to dig around with the seats forward like it was a coupe.

My 2021 has been a pleasure. Love the access "suicide" doors on both sides.
Was certainly looking forward to a 2024 AC 4x4 config (Sport, OR)
Toyota uses the sales numbers to justify dropping a config?
For people buying AC 4x4 LB versions?
Those people will be looking elsewhere.

(BTW Ford made the same stupid decision for the 2024 Ranger.)

Chevy went to all double cab with the collies. Maybe everyone realized where the sales are :notsure:

Wonder if dropping the suicide doors has to do with a change in side impact crash standards?

I have an AC and a DC truck and the AC has a bit of instability between the doors. So much so that you can see where the paint has rubbed off from the body flexing.
But with that, my AC truck is my work truck. I need a 6' bed and easily accessible "soft" storage for sensitive things like test equipment and my lunch so it works perfect for me.

The no AC 4x4 thing is much dumb. Nah, nobody needs the combo of 4x4 and a 6' bed and doesn't want a limo truck.

Ford hasn't outright said there will be no SuperCab Ranger yet. This prototype was spotted back in January, and it appears to have rear doors.

Toyota marketing constantly brags that they designed Gen4 by listening to the owners. Nothing new, they said the same thing for Gen3.

So, time to fess up…which owner here asked them to dump the access cab for a two door w/o access or rear jump seats?

Pretty obvious in this case that the “listened to owners” jargon translates to “safety reg’s + cost”.
