Does anyone know how accurate the TPMS sensors are? The dash readout states 35 all the way around, but when I check with my guage, it reads 31. Is this system just for decoration?

How much do you trust your gauge? I have two different styles of gauge and neither of them read the same or match the TPMs read out in the truck

They're in the ballpark but can vary. I've found them to be very accurate (especially the Denso OEM's). I'd bet your gauge is off more than the TPMS sensors if the sensors are a good brand.

The fact all sensors match and then all match by the gauge should tell you something.

I tried 2 different guages. No big deal, just curious.

I trust my TPMS more than gauges too. Also unfortunately the pressure goes up 4 -5 more psi, lately due to the extreme heat we're going through this week.

    Read the manual!

The TPMS sensors/system is not an "absolute" measurement system. It is a Relative/comparative system

That is, it "reads" the pressure within EACH tire when the system is reset as the "correct" pressure. (about 35psi , consult your vehicle data for accuracy) . Then it displays that tire pressure as 35psi REGARDLESS of what is actually in the tires. It is YOUR Responsibility to set the tire pressure accurately prior to resetting the TPMS.

Although, I use a different Blue-Point gauge from Snap-On... the readings are also spot on.

Because the numbers are identical on the gauge and TPMS sensors/system reading.

    Ahh, they compare favorably.

No Hg Manometers or water columns were harmed during the evaluation. ;[)

Quote] A piezoresistive pressure sensor consists of a diaphragm equipped with piezoresistive elements. The pressure of the medium causes the diaphragm to deflect; this deflection causes a change in the cross-sectional area of the piezoresistive elements that changes the material’s electrical resistance creating a voltage difference. The gauge's internal microprocessor then processes the voltage to display a pressure reading on the digital display.[end quote]

    How things work ;-)

I have 2 different gauges and they both read the same and are exactly the same as the TPMS readout. If you drive for a little bit before checking the readout it will rise a couple PSI just from driving heat. . . . . mine do.

As long as there are only a few pounds difference who cares. Worry when you got 3 tires at 28 and one at 22 then look into it.just saying.
