Hey Bangini. I loved my Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT2 studded winters so much that I’m going with the Cooper Discoverer A/T 3 in the same 215/85R16 pizza cutter (as you’ve suggested). Just wondering if you still have a receipt for when you bought them? They seem to have two models named A/T 3 but they are two different product codes. I’m quite certain I have the right ones but just curious if you had a part number on an invoice. Love the look and deep tread pattern of yours. Check this out:

    These must be yours
    https://www.customwheeloffset.com/b...2727/cooper-discoverer-at3-lt215-85r16-tires?

But how confusing and disappointing would it be to get these instead?
    https://www.customwheeloffset.com/buy-wheel-offset2/90000032591/cooper-discoverer-at3-lt-lt215-85r16-tires?

The tread doesn’t look nearly as aggressive.

Also curious what you’ve decided to keep your pressure at with them?

I’m mounting them on my stock rims and will post photos as soon as they’re on.

My tires were discontinued, so if you find them that look like mine they were probably made in 2017. Those prices seem high to me, but I got mine from discount tire direct when it was $100 off $500 purchase with a $70 mail in rebate, I think I paid $98 per tire in the end. But that was before the new upgraded AT3

I would specifically search the NEW "AT3 LT" as that's the only model that has 235/85/16

Personally I was mad after buying the old model, the new ones look so much better!

    Hope that helps, post pics

Thanks so much guys. I read a little closer and the AT3 were the originals that Bangini has and the newer version is the AT3 LT. The AT3 LT sidewalls and tire overall look better but I like the deep tread of the original AT3. I’m actually kind of torn because I think that deep tread could make the 215/85R16 look even narrower? Or is it just me or does the new AT3 LT taper off near the top and would then make it look narrower lol?

Here is a pretty good photo that compares some of the Discoverer models

Yeah I won’t be paying those prices but they still seem expensive here in Canada. Little mail-in rebate happening now.

Regardless which I choose, I will post photos once installed. Just wish we could find a nice black rim for our pizza cutters

According to coopers website, the AT3 LT has 16.5/32 tread depth which is the same depth as the original at3. I think it will look good!

I didn’t even realize they listed that info - thanks. That’s good news because I ordered the LT version yesterday. Canadian Tire had them at 25% off so it made my decision a little easier. My only regret is last time I tried to order from them, my tires took forever to come in and I had to cancel. That’s when I found the studded Nokians. With all that’s going on, I expect them to be slow but it better be within the next few weeks because I’ll have to go elsewhere again. Don’t want to keep running studs on the dry pavement. I’ll use my Husqvarna 701 to get around the next little while. Will keep you guys posted and share photos once they’re on.

Yeah, that picture is quite helpful. Good choice and hopefully the tread looks better in person

Hey guys - sorry for the delay, but like always here in the great white north, it takes forever to receive things. I am happy to say I finally got my Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT tires installed, in proper 215/85R16 pizza cutter form. I got them from a small tire shop in town that really favours the Cooper brand and when I asked for this tire size, he didn’t even question me. I learned later that he has a Tacoma and puts 215s on his also. He said I shouldn’t run them any lower than 35psi as it would damage the interior. Anyone have any comments on that? I’ve also included photos of those tires if anyone else is considering them, and also for comparison.

I'm part of the club! LT215/85 R16 Firestone Destination XT's. They weigh almost the same as the P rated 245/75's that came on the truck. Happy so far, we'll see what happens in the snow..if we get some.

How are you liking the Destination X/Ts so far? And are those 7" wide wheels? I am thinking about a set of the XTs since they are one of the lighter options - I have an SR with steel wheels and LE2s and was thinking about getting XTs in the stock 245/75-16 size but with a set of SR5 alloy wheels to balance out the extra 9 lbs/corner.

How does the E-rated 215 ride and did you notice any MPG differences? I am trying to plan upgrades carefully to stay in the 20+ MPG range on the road.

I notice a very minor ( maybe 3-5%) decrease in mileage vs. My 245's on alloy sr5 rims. I think this due to the rolling resistance of the more aggressive tread. I have zero noise complaints about them. The grip is very good. I have had them in the mud and clay. No regrets at all. I'm running them at 40psi. Obviously the ride is pretty harsh at that pressure. They are on 7" rims.

Any downside to skinny tires? Less rubber in contact with the road so how does that effect traction and braking? More prone to hydroplaning?

Less hydroplaning due to a smaller footprint (more weight per square inch contact patch vs. larger tire. I haven't had any issues with traction in rain or snow at all. I don't think skinny tires would be as good in sand, but I rarely encounter it. For my application (rock, snow, rain) I love skinny tires.

I ended up going with the 245s as the 215s were out of stock earlier this year. I lost maybe 1 MPG all around and can still get 24-25 MPG at 65 MPH. We took it out to Colorado and did some of the easy passes like Ophir Pass and also did Medano Pass leaving Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park that has a decent amount of sand at the beginning - no issues at all. Very happy with these tires, though after about 9000 miles they seem to have lost a tiny bit of wet traction compared to new.

How are your tyres going? Have you upgraded to the new model or still running the original set?
