I just changed the CPS sensor on my friends Tacoma. I found a staple on the end of it after pulling it out of the engine bay. He’s never had it changed and it’s a 2016 so it most likely had issues and had that predetermined early failure (there was a recall on 2016 and 2017s). I noticed it had way better response overall no matter what RPM you’d be at. More power, like the VVT system is working properly with the output shaft (crankshaft) position. My point is that even if you feel like you don’t have any issues and you own either of these years I would recommend spending the $100-150 and change it yourself. You’ll get better MPG and performance by doing so.
