So I'm putting together the final touches before I order everything and wanted to see what the group thinks. 2022 TRD Off Road Double Cab non-JBL, starting with the head unit:

    • Alpine ILX-507 HU w/ Maestro Interface
    • Alpine R2-S69C components for the front doors and dash
    • Alpine R2-S65 coaxial for the rear doors
    • Kenwood eXcelon X802-5 5 Channel amp to power the doors and the dash (50Wx4) and eventually a sub (300Wx1) - sorry, running low on funds at this point lol.
Thinking JL 8" Microsub behind the passenger seat cubby.
I've always loved how Alpine sounds and I've heard wonderful things about the JL so I'm looking forward to getting this hooked up sooner than later.

Just curious what opinions people might have with this setup.

Great choices, forgive my ignorance but do you need an amp for those component speakers? Or is it just for the most kick, and obviously planning ahead for micro sub.

A little of both. The new speakers are rated at 100W RMS so technically speaking I'll be underpowering them but nowhere near as much as if I just drove them from the head unit directly (16W RMS). Having the fifth channel for the sub is just a bonus. I'm not looking for ground quaking bass anymore, just enough to add some "oomph" to my music when I have the windows down driving.

Well, the more money I have, and the longer I spend with car audio, as long as it’s a solid brand…go with your heart. I’ve learned that there’s definitely a point of diminished returns as you spend above the $500 mark, until you’re in “nice set of home speakers” money. I’m just going to comment on your amp, I have the XR901-5. Killer amps. Mine is rated at 150wpc on the 4 channels bridged, makes 200+. On the sub, I use 4ohm, rated at 400w, I get a little north of 550wpc. Google “KENWOOD x802-5 amp dyno”. Dean from 5star runs it in, and the 802 is no joke.
