Hawaii is a no helmet too, though it definately should be with the tourists they allow from everywhere to drive in that state.

1983 restoration in progress, major mods so far new 6" lift and 35" Mickey Thompsons.
Nothing to do with your original post, and maybe already been asked but didn't have time to read 16 pages of posts, but what became of the '79 stepside? Is it still running? Have any pictures? I love old trucks and restore them in my spare time, which I have very little of.

I'm currently restoring an '83 Toyota 4x4 pickup. Bought a brand new '82 in my younger days, best truck ever, always wanted another one to restore.

I'm sure we can all agree on this, but I have a long driveway and I get really sick of this stupid chime whenever I am taking the trash cans to the street. I have to do this regularly, so I'm not putting the seatbelt on in my driveway only to take it right back off seconds later.

As an adult, I don't need a reminder to put on my seatbelt, its just nonsense bullshit that makes my life less enjoyable.

However, the indicator light is fine so I know to remind the passengers.

Always wear your seatbelt, but I don't need a nanny.

I've responded to a couple of accidents with no seatbelt. I lady was ejected and we found her face down on the side of the road. She would have just had some scrapes if she had a seatbelt. She probably now requires someone to wipe her rear for her. The other girl coded 4 times in the ambulance before we got her stable enough to life flight her. Those were just two I responded to.
    I strongly suggest seatbelts.

Is there a way to turn off all the cab and outside lights? I like to do night driving under nightvision (in areas that are safe for it).

    - Seatbelt chime, for slow driving/working around rural property.
    - Still wish, and would pay for a solution to the door chime though. Early 3rd gens don't have options to turn it off. Disconnecting button loses dome light among other things. Still weighing pros and cons of removing small piezo speaker and loosing turn signal sounds, or other "useful beeps" I cant think of, if any.
    - Also wish I could turn off recirc coming on with AC, But I may now regret that with all the wildfire smoke.

I’m giving the79 stepside to my grand nephew. He’s a freshman in high school and his dad is gonna help him fix it up. It is still running but they want to put an LS engine in it. The deep pan 400 tranny is still strong. I’m gonna miss ole blue. Been a damn good truck but the youngster will like it and learn to work on stuff with his dad.

I've only turned off the radio when FooFighters came on. Otherwise I keep adding more things to turn on.

The radar cruise control is actually super nice even with the manual. You don’t have to stress about keeping up with traffic or people tail gating.

No. A seatbelt holds you in your seat. It’s absolutely possible to get hit and tossed from your seat and have the vehicle still be operable. Nothing like being in the passenger seat as your vehicle careens into a van full of innocent people. So yes, you ARE endangering others by ignoring the law. And in the case of ejection, getting tossed onto the roadway can also cause you to be in the path of another vehicle and possibly cause yet another collision. A motorcyclist wearing/not wearing a helmet is different.

Wow, what a scenario that was. Sounds like a piece of script from a movie or the opening Rod Sterling dialogue from the “Twilight Zone”.
