They literally just released a PHEV Tundra for a huge markup that is a comfort upgrade at best. Frame rust comes later.

Cool, now cite the ultra-convenient 240 miles of range completely unladen that a $60k truck gives (Ford Lightning). A whopping 240 miles before the battery degradation sets in lol...

Want to tow something? Better not have to drive more than 2 hours round trip, because good luck finding a spot to unhook the trailer and wait for the truck to charge.
Want to do a 7 hour road trip? Enjoy adding 1.5 hours+ to charge up at very specific stops.

I could go on and continue to be off-topic, but the fact is they are a novelty that folks who rarely leave a city can take full advantage of. Maybe the 500 people who skip the 4th gen is what you meant by "a lot" but the vast majority of truck buyers do not want that.

I honestly don't know how they are going to do it better if they use a ladder frame Tacoma, there is even less frame space to cram battery packs in on these smaller trucks vs the larger Lightning.

When did that happen? I don't see it on the toyota site.

Smart buyers know the CURRENT BEV pickup limitations. Novelty is a matter of opinion.

You can get a long range XLT for around $80K. Throw in $10K of tax credits and money saved on gas and I bet the price ends up pretty close to that of the top tier 2024 Tacomas. It’s obviously not the best choice for long road trips or heavy towing but the Tacoma isn’t a great choice for those either. It’s something to think about now that the basic midsize truck has become so expensive.

I like the the BEVs, but yeah they are a novelty at this point. Too many compromises which don’t come cheap. Mainly being range and recharge times. They are nothing more than an expensive urban “look at me” run around vehicle. Which isn’t anything new given the rise of the luxury pickup.

Much rather have range than the power war pissing match we are seeing from EV manufacturers. And that goes for petrol too. Where’s my 30 mpg Tacoma!? Instead we get high hp/tq that really can’t tow much…and won’t get that much better fuel economy over what we have now.

A F150 can be ordered with a 36 gallon tank, even at 15 mpg, that is excellent! I look at range because I travel a lot. EVs are too much of a hassle at this point for me. As vehicles progress they are supposed to make our lives easier not less convenient.

Let's not forget that most of the news/feedback on the 4th gen has been made from toyota wined and dined reporters.

I hear ya. But a novelty to me says it's something that is new and will be gone quickly. EV's are new, about 12 + years compared to ICE 100+ years but it's not going anywhere and consumers should be aware of their current limitations before buying.

Ford Lightning = $100k. For the privilege of cooling your heels for hours at a charger all of the time. Towing a TT is hard enough as it is with ICE vehicle, why pay big bucks for even LESS convenience and range?

Give me iForce hybrid, that checks all of the boxes.

Geez, you whiners would complain no matter what is offered, I thought the 2nd gen pissing and moaning was bad but this is a whole new level.

Solid state batteries I believe will be smaller and last longer then lithium. I read somewhere that is thr battery they put in the mini speaker that has been shown for the 4th gen

They don't have to buy an EV. Those that do know what they are getting into. An adult would consider all factors before buying such a new tech vehicle. Just because it doesn't make sense to some doesn't mean it won't work for others.

The 4th gen was aimed at tailpipe emissions with a slight, maybe unnoticeable gain in mpg. Im sure the aftermarket will improve the performance

You could get this Ram diesel for $53,000 advertised price to tow the TT and everyone else can ride in the Prius, or an EV. Bonus would be the Ram towing the TT, could be set up at the camp site by the time the EV catches up after stopping along the way to charge, if the choice was to go EV.

The Ford E-Transit Winnebago that has a modified battery pack only has a range something like around 105-130 miles per charge.

You just told us earlier in this thread that the iForce hybrid is (paraphrasing here) a useless turd and those that buy it are not with the program.

Works for me. BEV doesn't. We agree on this point that we each evaluate our respective wants and needs and purchase accordingly.

I'd like to see where I said that. I'm 100% for the hybrid setup and have been supporting it here and on other threads.

Lol maybe I confused you with the many others that are uselessly quacking in Luddite here in this thread. Too lazy to scroll up and re-read. My apologies.
