This is @Hayrider ‘s old engine. Has about 36k miles on it, so it’ll be a big upgrade over the current one in the truck

This was kind of a spur of the moment decision since I’m at the mercy of the weather. You’re welcome to come out and turn some wrenches though. There’s plenty to do!

I think the sc would probably serve you well since you wheel and the torque would probably be a little better at low rpm. But I would personally go turbo if it was me. You’re plenty mechanically inclined to be able to do what it takes to make that happen. @Torspd can build you a manifold and then you can basically piece everything else together around that.

Got it torn down to a short block in about two hours! Everything is looking fantastic so far. Head gasket wasn’t far from failing between cylinders 3 and 4. This is where mine have failed in the past running stock head bolts with boost, so I’m not surprised- this is why I recommend running ARP studs with any type of boost on the 2TR. I’ve had two head gaskets fail within 5k miles of adding boost and using the stock head bolts.

Here’s the head. Working on cleaning up everything and chasing the block for head studs now, then reassembly will commence

Got everything cleaned up the best I could. Some of that carbon was really cooked onto the piston tops.

Yeah the weather has sucked. Won't stop raining. Sounds good, I'll be in Houston this weekend but maybe another weekend when I'm not working we can wrench

Yes indeed, been raining pretty steady here the past couple of weeks. All good, you heading down to do some turbo manifold mockup by chance?

Not yet. But still should be a little bit faster and handle a little better.

Blocks and parts look great. Only way to reassemble is with head studs. :muscleflexing:

    She’s a beaut!
I liked the sounds of this. Look forward to some updates in your build!

Thanks man! The cleaning it what takes the most time. Once that’s done, it goes together pretty quickly

Long block is finished up now. Going to work on cleaning up the block and painting it tomorrow and then start the process of swapping things out if I have some steam left. I threw on a new Aisin water pump, OEM thermostat, and front main seal. Need to do the rear main tomorrow too. Also got the oil pan swapped over today that I welded a drain bung in for the turbo too, so other than valve cover, coolant bypass pipe, and manifolds, oil filter housing, and clutch/flywheel this thing should be ready to swap in. Ill be changing out the motor mounts for some new OEM ones at the same time

Practically a brand new engine. @Hayrider was right. From what I could see, it was in very good condition.

Cleaned and painted the block today. Used a combination of wire wheels that fit in a drill and a dremel with stainless brushes to get into the tight spots. Went with rustoleum grey engine primer and VHT grey paint. 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of VHT
