Not sure the argument for extra maintenance is valid. Now, if Toyota ultimately suggests say 5,000 miles OCIs for the Turbo-4 versus the 10,000 mile OCIs of the V6, then yes, more maintenance would be warranted. As for the extra cooldown time, I don't see that as a valid argument at all. Yes, old school turbochargers needed this, but Chrysler solved that issue back in 1983 when they worked with Garrett to develop a unit with a water cooled bearing. Now, if you are balls to the wall out on a track in your Golf-R and come screaming into the pits, they yes, a cooldown periods would be strongly recommended.

Someone took a shot at older people then I took a shot at younger people. It is called a counterpunch and it is clear some of the younger guys think no one should punch back. Pretty pathetic if you ask me and it solidifies that they are soft. Has nothing to do with sensitivity.

Been saying for years, if people will pay $60K for a 4Runner, they pay that for a 70-series LC. I know I would. Even a gasser.

Glad I bought my DCSB OR when I did (Feb). Great truck though and I'm very happy with it. I was surprised at how nimble it is, since I've never owned (or driven) a Taco before, just early carb'd Land Cruisers

 

We've had numerous Toyota trucks over the years, and still have new 3rd gen Tacoma and an 80 series LC.

I don't think Toyota realizes how much demand there would be for the 70-series in the USA, but I'm sure it would greatly conflict with Taco and 4Runner and perhaps even Tundra sales...

Fair question, the body is based on the old 70 chasis, but hard to know exactly what's underneath. Toyota has offered numerous variants of trucks and SUV's over the years. North America gets a very limited number of their models.




In example this is a 2022 series 79 double cab. Rear looks to be leafs, so not an traditional 80 chassis as their a coil spring rear. That rear door cracks me up.

Looks like one of those Proffitt’s Cruiser conversions is why I am asking. Know they had a bunch of 70 pickup bodies at one time imported from the Middle East I believe, some of them went on 60s chassis, others on the 80s.

Yes, that for sure looks like a possible 80 chassis! Looking back at the first 70 pickup, I can see the front link there as well. The 4 door 70 I posted still appears to have a leaf from the rear of the tire. That just goes to show how many body/chassis/drivetrains toyota has repurposed outside of the US.

But hey, everyone wanted a Turbo Tacoma, just didn't expect it to also include the rest of a Prius.

 

Factory Toyota 70s have leafs. The linked are usually private custom shops, or individuals.

IIRC, the variants are single cab pickup bed, single cab Ute bed, double cabs with both bed options, troop carrier, wagon, and a short wheelbase 2 door. Diesel and gas engine options.

It will not make it to the USA. Domestic car industry is too well 'connected'. Oddly, we are not 'free' to buy MANY vehicles available out there...

Just the safety requirements will certainly keep even the gas version out of the US.

 

Yeah, will never happen here. Only way to do it is to import a 25 year old one. Which will need a ton of work. And honestly as much as I lust after the 70 series, none of the cab configurations will work for me. Need either an extra or crew cab with at the very least a 6’ bed. Need to fit 3 dirt bikes in the bed, and gear bags in the cab for day trips.

If am I going through the trouble of restoring/building a truck, it would be a 60s-70s Ford Crew Cab. Toss in a modern drivetrain, link the front, leafs in the rear to support a weight of an Alaskan Camper for my travels.

Me too. Learned to drive in my dad’s ‘76 F250 Ranger when I was 10, sohave a soft spot in my heart for them. Almost dragged home a ‘76 F250 Crew a few years ago, owner couldn’t find the title…probably for the best. As much as I love old iron for how the sheet metal is bent, a Tundra will do the same job better, faster, smoother, more comfortable and a hell of a lot safer. And it is already done, just get in and drive. No monkeying around spinning wrenches. So over working on stuff. That is how my mind works, ooooh 70 series, I could import one, well if I am going to do that, just build an old Ford…do I really want to do that? Naaaah. Just buy a Tundra and be done with it, and really the 3rd Gen Tacoma I already own is fine. I need to get off these gawd damn forums, go exploring and enjoy the truck I already have.
