New Tacoma owner. Bought a manual 09 for a steal. Here’s the mystery:

when I start the car, it idles at 1200rpm, which sounds noticeably high to me. It also feels like when I start driving at this rpm, it shudders a little getting into first. Then, after a minute or two of driving, it’ll settle back down into the 800 range. And everything feels smooth.

I think this is intentional, maybe to warm up the engine? What do y’all think?

Also- Do y’all drive it right after startup even when it’s still in its startup idle rpms? Or is it best to let the car idle for a minute, and once it settles back into the 800 range, then begin driving?

let me know what you think! Thanks!

    Totally normal.
Don't over think it. Start it up and drive it.

The high idle after start up is normal. I'm old school, so I let my truck warm up before taking off. I don't want it to pull a muscle.
