These bird closures suck and get worse every year as the population increases. I went one day on Memorial Day weekend. Now it will probably be closed until mid August.
Edit: Sandy Neck still has a mile of beach open. They only sell season passes though.

Is it closed because of bird nesting?

I went in September in 2021 and the orv trails had recently opened after being closed for nesting. The day I showed up, a plane overshot the runway while landing in a storm, so all orv access was closed. Pretty crazy seeing a plane on a flatbed.

No kidding! That was the weekend me and a few others were planning to go out. The plane ran off the runway (I THINK) Friday? Then I think Saturday rained or the road was closed for the plane (or both), it wasn't worth it to go out there for just Sunday for me. Can't remember anymore, but yeah the plane put the kibosh on my plans to go out for the day or two. Then last year I think it dumped all weekend. Oh well.

I was meeting a handful of tw peeps that weekend; @Blais03 , Tyler @NorthEastTacoma , Kyle (forgot his handle), pretty sure @Sasquatchtaco was up there, as well as @mabepossibly .

It stormed hard the night before I arrived and that is when it overshot the runway. I had no idea until I got all the way up there and Nick was like “hey dude you hear about the plane crash?”.

Stayed that day/night (Friday) hoping they would clear it up and open the trails quickly. On Saturday they were still doing the investigation and just started removing it, with no immediate plans to open. I headed home Saturday, but I am fairly certain trails opened Sunday and a couple of the guys got to go out. In hindsight I should’ve been more patient- would have gotten me on the trails at least for a little bit, but I was eager to get home to start my deck rebuild.

Yeah! That was the same cast of characters I was going to meet up with too

I'm right in providence though, so I was going to make it a day trip. I checked weather and trail conditions morning of and bailed. Ah well, fingers crossed for this year!

Dumb piping plover. I used to fish for stripers either from the beach or via kayak down in Deluxbury. Had multiple instances of those autoban cooks yelling at us even though we were not encroaching on the roped off nesting areas.

Also did a thing about 3 weeks ago now. Only picture i have of it is from a site. Sold my '98 landcruiser and got a 2015 200 series. Hated to do it, mechanically it was perfect. But even with fluid film 2x year and getting it rust free, rust was killing the body. Rear upper hatch rotted where the stupidd hatch spoiler bolts on causing the hatch release handle to rust oit and not work. And the rockers behind all the wheels were starting to bubble. Plus it was need if new CVs and some maintenance.20230531_151022.jpg

New GX reveled. It can tow 8k! I'm in love lol. Showed the wife and she likes it too. Also makes me very hopeful for the next 4runner

Don’t get blinded by the towing capacity, look at the payload also! Sounds like the same engine and chassis from the Tundra though, so likely stout enough.

looks-wise, it’s better than the old one for sure, I can’t make up my mind how I feel about it though. Neat truck for sure though.

Seems like sandy neck will be too short notice if it’s only by mail :(

there’s an office in Chatham so maybe I’m wrong. If anything it’ll be an excuse to head out to the cape again

Oh I know. Granted I'm most likely over payload no matter which vehicle I have towing lol. Should be good though. The luxury models will only tow 6k ish lbs so payload on Premium, Premium +, and Overtrail should be good.

We taking bets? Over under 80K base price? :spy:

I'll start the bidding, the most basic option 63.5K (I cheated and looked up the current costs)

I haven’t gotten a Sandy Neck pass in a few years. You used to just drive up to the guard shack and fill out your paperwork, give them a check and they inspect your vehicle/equipment and you’re done.
