Very strange, these scratches and one dent (on the left side) appeared on both rear door jams. The last time someone was in the back of my truck was over 2 years ago. I guess the last time I detailed the interior was 6 months ago. This truck is in the garage most the time and I take public transit to work. It did however spend some time in Chicago airport parking garages so was kinda leaning into a break in attempt. The location of the scratches kinda make me re think that. And the damage does not transfer over to the inside of the door. Anyone have any guesses? I mean something was in both these doors, scratching and denting. Thanks for Your guesses!!

This is where left side dent matches with door (no damage) also checked under seal

This is where the dent would be located from the outside IMG_6499.jpg

    No damage to door/gap..

looks like a break-in attempt judging by the pictures and location

I can't tell enough, but it definitely looks like a break in attempt, but I don't know what the back door would do for them. Checks out for Chicago though.

    Time for 4th gen.

I thought I have read about paint delamination inside the door jambs on certain color 3rd gens, Cavalry Blue being one. Dents don't make any sense and that don't look like failing paint.

I can't imagine trying to break into a vehicle from the bottom of the door.

Not a break in attempt. It would be exceedingly hard to cause damage at that point with the doors closed without causing severe damage to the door edges.
That looks more like you managed to get the sear belt buckles jammed, or maybe took the rear seat or something else out/in of the truck.

I thought about that but I have always had the belts latched, and never taken the seats out. Also the belts do not hang low enough to be in the door. No idea

Has anyone else reomved the seat? Stero upgrade? 3rd brake light recall? IDK why the seat would come out for that. Carseat anchor recall? I think that was a thing, but on later trucks 21-22 maybe.

Does a child of yours borrow or use the truck, or maybe your wife? That would almost explain anything. LOL

The left side door jamb looks like there is a hole in it where the dent is. Those are deep scratches too.

Strange spot for a break in. Wrong spot. Maybe a really short person? I’d think the edges of the door would also be missing paint also.

I’d grind any pointed spots smooth then add vinyl wrap cover it right up.

Thanks! You have a link to the wrap you would use?

Man I just used this stuff and it went well I’ve never really wrapped anything but it was super easy to work with. I soaped it down and used a heat gun.

I did the rear widow in this pic. Turned out great. Don’t know how long it last but I like it.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Did someone haul something awkward & bulky in the back? Perhaps clumsily loaded and unloaded?

Mechanic slammed the rear door shut with a tool in it when getting the rear light fixed?
