    Update:

Went with the shop repair. Head was removed and sent to machine shop. They found a crack near cyl 1 into a coolant port. It was small so they welded it and then re-machined everything. Engine was re-assembled and is no longer leaking coolant at all. Just completed a 10 day cross country trip with no problems :) Total cost in the end was about $2.6k.

The only new issue is that there seems to be a fluttering sound coming from somewhere near the cat. I added a second hose clamp around the heat shield to see if that helps but also found some loose brackets that seem to connect the upstream exhaust pipe from the cat to the transfer case? Not totally sure whats going on here.

Attached are photos of the cleaned up head as well as the loose transfer case brackets with a pretty obvious bolt missing. (items circled in red are loose). \

Thanks everyone for the solid advice !

Make sure to check your pulley bracket bolts and what not, over next 6 mo...
those loaded vibrating pulley's will give your bolts a run for their money....

so many times that stuff works loose.......smart mechanics are Uber careful with all those bolts going into aluminum...
