The lack of discipline really shows .

Stay at home moms were great!! Grandma`s as well.

Now for the most as soon as they are weaned surrounded and raised by strangers.

 

Dad had a paddle in a kitchen drawer. We had to go get it, bring it to him, get our paddling, go put it back and have the crying “dried up” by the time it was put back or he would tell us to bring it back to him. Sometimes I would hold my breath till I got outside or to another room. Still never got the paddlings that we deserved.

 

Someone, I have forgotten who, called this "Parenting by Proxy". It seemed to fit.

 

Yup. My 8th grade teacher was the vice principal and his office was attached to our classroom. He was a large man and was responsible for swinging the strap. We heard every detail every time it landed on some poor sob's hand. We were a rather well behaved class.

 

Ah, the good old days.

 

I never heard of anybody getting whacked on the hand, outside of Catholic school.

I went to schools where they had various paddles that they could swat you with, but usually it was some other form of corporal punishment that we had to endure.

Paddling was reserved for the real serious cases. I was never one of them, although I was no angel either.

 

Bar of soap in a sock doesn’t leave identifiable marks.

 

My close friend's dad was the vice-principal of my middle school. We got away with some ridiculous stuff. It was truely a great time to be alive. My mom still broke kitchen utensils on my ass weekly.

 

Your family must have bought very cheap wooden spoons .

 

Back when 3mil plastic bags were considered thin.

Now 3 mil is heavy duty.

 

We had a gym coach that would dole out the swats back then. The teacher from wood shop made a great paddle with holes in it. It hung up on the wall behind his desk. If you screwed up you were sent to his office. Once there he only closed the door part way to make sure everybody heard. He’d have that long talk with you about how this was going to hurt him more than it hurt you blah blah blah. Then he would say stand up and grab your ankles… I was on the receiving end just once. That SOB could really step into a swat! You could hear that smack echo all the way down the hallway!

 

At my schools, each classroom & teacher had their own paddle. One could get swatted multiple times a day with no mercy - because the teacher doing the swatting might not know you've already got sore spots where they're hitting from an earlier discipline lesson. (It didn't happen often, as one usually toed the line after the first paddling. Usually.)

 

My Jr. High principal did the swatting. You got to sign the wooden paddle after the swatting

 

Ah yes. Triggers the memory of soda, pizza, and 90's hip hop at a party somewhere.

 

Ya! That’s how I know it!!

 

It was the logo on every cup at those kids party places and beyond.
