Just bought this '99 Prerunner for $5k, it was listed as 160K but the odometer is busted. I went for it anyway because it seems to be in great shape mechanically and has a $1k in brand new tires but it's...confusing.
Carfax mileage trail goes dead in '09 at 141K and it's had maybe 5 owners since then.
Driver's seat and brake pedal look like 250-300k but the engine and trans don't have a drop of oil on them which I've never seen on a truck with that kind of mileage. They're good and dirty too so I know they weren't just washed for the sale.

Suspension also doesn't look aftermarket to me (not sure what to look for other than the front shocks are def OEM) but it's in really great shape, nice and stiff. It does seem a little high for a standard prerunner, but maybe thats the tires?
I'm just confused about it, like someone really maintained the hell out of it but left the odometer broken for 100,000 miles?

Trans fluid looks like it has a couple hundred on it but I'm not great at reading that. Doesn't smell burnt.

Also the truck has the button and wiring for a rear locker but no locker on the pumpkin. Maybe got a rear end swap at some point? Or was the locker option something were all the Prerunners came wired for it even if you had the standard issue differential?

My prerunner is at 270K so my plan was to switch a couple parts over and sell mine but now I'm not sure if it's worth it. This one is in better shape then mine but with the broken odometer I have no idea where I'm at with the timing belt and LBJs.

What do ya'll think? Anything I'm missing or other stuff I should be checking?

If you like the truck just replace the timing belt and balljoints & enjoy it.

Usually when they change that belt...they put a current milage sticker on the shroud...

If there aint no sticker, I would assume its past time.....

And even if they did the belt, and didnt do all the other stuff....
any of those fail and your just as screwed....

Truck looks good, I really like it.

Ive seen some vehicles at the auction that I suspect someone just put a sticker on without changing the belt.
