Not a glowing endorsement. Plus, all these insane trims. WTF is a prerunner?

Living in the Midwest I was unfamiliar with the term as well. A prerunner is a truck that you use to get familiar with a desert race course before the actual race. Most go fast race trucks are 2wd, albeit I think that is slowly changing as they figure out how to make IFS 4wd tough enough to survive a race.

Great vid! Sounds like Toyota did a lot to improve the new Gen.

He owns a reputable shop that specializes on building Toyotas, many of them - one of two guys/companies I’d trust to work on my truck in the area…but everyone will need to make their own decision on the new Gen.

As someone who will probably never overland their truck in the crazy rock crawling way.. the only real disappointment is the extended-cab model with its missing door and backseats. Otherwise, as long as the truck improves on MPGs, this truck looks to be a success. The new low-end powercurve looks to be the biggest change that everyone will want. The styling and interior also look really nice. Hoping it's just as reliable and durable as the previous gens.

This is another informative video on the 4G. Sucks to see they used wheel offset and wider fender flares to claim the 3" width increase and didn't increase control arm length to give more travel/off-road performance. It seems they spent the money in the wrong places, I'd take better suspension over the gimmicky suspension seats. Also STILL no front locker? Come on Toyota. I guess they know their market and most do not take it off-road.

I’d say it’s a good bet. The number of people who use a front locker out of need ever in the life of their trucks is vanishingly small.

Well, it is easy to say that it could be this or it could be that, when taking the build changes out of financial context. In the end of the day Toyota's game plan is to make profit.

Complaining about things which are not beefy enough or traveling not far enough makes sense for those who prepared to pay for improvements. This is not your average Tacoma buyer though. And guess whom Toyota is trying to please?

    Just a thought.

One of the worst things they did is mount that hitch/bumper directly to the frame which means no high clearance bumpers. Unless, someone’s brave enough to cut through the frame :)
