Installed door sill protectors (easy) and a BAK Revolver X4S (not easy).

Right off the bat, I am not mechanically inclined (and a little OCD) so that probably was a factor, but there were a decent number of areas where the engineering of the cover didn't quite match up with the rail system. It took me about 4 hours to complete the install.

There were two big things.

First, I have seen some videos where on the passenger side the bracket would not line up with the hole closest to the tailgate on the bed rails. Mine was just about 1/8 inch off, but the driver side was also 1/8 off. So the last bracket is mostly on the rail for both sides.

Second, on passenger side, the metal bracket that will hold the cover down near the cab was not square with the rail (the driver side was). There was nothing I could do about that, but at least the cover fit was not affected.

To ensure the cover was fitting a flush as possible, I bought 1/8 inch thick x 1 inch wide weather stripping which allowed the cover to sit flush on the bed.

Now I'm not saying not to buy this cover, but just beware you could have to do some MacGyver'ing to make it work

I think the issue is the Tacoma bed rails and the Revolver X4s are made on different assembly lines but have no insight into what the other is doing as far as fitment is concerned (that would be impossible, so we just have to deal with it). BAK is mass producing a cover with an assumption that all Tacoma bed rails will be made to the exact measurements every time (which makes sense). But after seeing some videos on the process (and posts here), and dealing with my own experience, this is probably going to cause fitment issues. Its like the panel lottery when buying an OLED or something. You just hope you get the one where the assembly line was kicking ass that day.

The cover is really nice and will do the job very well. Just be prepared that the cover and bed rails could be too different and not allow you to install the cover without major changes.

I've not heard anything but good things about the most recent KD Max tune, and have been thinking about tuning.

The truck hates speeds under 50. Not sure why. Other than that it's wonderful. Gonna drive it a few more days before making any decisions on changing modes.

 

If you have comprehensive coverage on your vehicle policy then that covers things like rocks and projectiles and, at least with State Farm, there is no deductible. It is the same coverage that covers theft and replaces windshields cost free from kicked up rocks. It does not affect your premiums. Had several windshields replaced over the years, 2 in a 3rd gen, and cost me nothing. Worth looking into. I add comprehensive to every car. Does not need to have collision coverage to add comp.

 

It is an excellent tune. But I'm having issues with the truck not liking speeds under 50 (gear hunting). It could just be the mode it set in (sport). I'll drive it a few more days and make a decision on if I change it.

 

When I saw your post, I had a little chuckle and was thinking the same thing.

Installed the Toyota tailgate lock kit. Super easy and works great. Honestly I don’t understand why it doesn’t come with it. Especially a Pro model.

Also installed URD shirt shifter kit. Haven’t driven it yet but it feels great. Had to wait for the RSV to dry then didn’t have time to get out. Can’t wait to drive it tomorrow to pick up the parts to do the AC line extension.

 

Oh, nice!! I thought it was Outgear Solutions, but couldn't quite tell 100%. Their bumpers are amazingly nice.
