Meh, last year when I was shopping 4runners, they had a TRD Pro with a 15K market adjustment.

70K for a lime green 4runner and it sold.

 

I never complain about what corporations do. I'm not even against insider trading, or car dealers charging what they want. I embrace the free market and accept what does regardless if I agree or disagree with the elements that capitalism employs.

 

I'm still free to choose where and what I want to buy. If it's now out of my price range I look somewhere else. If it's all out of my price range I look for something else.

 

Low milage used 4R Pros were like 70k or more list price. People were buying them up. It's just crazy that there's this kind of market for decades old designed Toyota trucks and SUV, that 1.are still curently in production 2.not the greatest example of automotive engineering. Were talking 3rd gen Tacomas, and 5th gen 4Runners. I like them, but they are what they are it's just amazing what people have been willing to pay for them.

Yeah the auto dealership situation in the US is anything but free market. Especially for light trucks.

 

I was just at a dealer today looking at a new HD diesel and they wanted to add $300 for nitrogen and $1700 for a BS package of a dash cam, shitty clear bra and a lifetime power train warranty only good at their dealership. When I explained that the standard air in tires is 78% nitrogen, their clear bra sucks, the dash cam costs $100 and the truck has a factory 100k mile power train warranty I was looked at like I slapped someone’s baby. I left my offer on the table and left, doubt I will get a call back.

 

Nice to see Toyota's are still holding their value.

 

ADP has been added to the cars for years. added dealer profit. Around her they add pulse brake light flash for about 250 . Amazon <$30. Same with paint protection nothing new.

 

I don't see where SET is the issue. I see this as a dealer-specific issue.

 

It really is a free market and the concept of supply and demand still rules. There was no way I was going to buy a new Taco from the dealer. Way back in 2002 I befriended the finance guy at the credit union who at one point had been a finance guy for a big dealership. He schooled me on all the ins and out of car pricing. Th MB dealer ship had a C230 hatchback Kompressor with a 6speed MT - the sticker price was astronomical. Problem was the luxury and hatchback are mutually exclusive in the American car market and further MT in an MB sedan was just going to sell. My CU buddy told me BMW had tried the hatcback thing in the US market and failed so why MB thought it would work was a mystery. Anyway he told be what to offer which was about the same $$$ as a Honda Accord with a 6MT and they took it. Basically they were not going to loose $$ on the car but they needed to get rid of it because . . . . well supply and demand - they had the supply but there was no demand. Now the C230 4 door sedans automatics . . . . . yeah, you were not getting a deal on them.

 

The pulsing brake light is the devil.

 

Go to Stokes Toyota in Beaufort ,South Carolina..zero mark up and no dealer bullshit added...

Yep may be quite beneficial if you get a #3 cyl burnt valve or timing cover leak.

 

The free market is anything but "free".

 

SET contributed about $1,500 to the problem, plus not allowing the use of TFS for financing or an actual Toyota extended warranty. But yes, the dealership is the bulk of it.
