I'm going to add fog lights to my base trim truck, and looking at switches I'm seeing plenty for around $10, where the OEM Toyota ones are $75+. I know OEM will always be stupid expensive, but am I risking anything by getting a cheap one?

Depends on how you are wiring them.
If you are going with plug and play OE parts, buy the OE switch.
If you are going with aftermarket lights and wiring it yourself, get what ever switch you want.

The factory switch is ground side switched to relay.
Almost all aftermarket are positive side switched to the relay.

Probably nothing wrong, just be aware many of the aftermarket switches are designed to switch power and the factory setup switches ground.

I'm looking at aftermarket lights that accept the factory wiring harness, which is present in my truck. I'm hoping the switch harness is behind my dash, but I haven't verified yet.

It seems most of the V6 trucks are pre-wired so odds are all you need is a relay, switch, fuse, and lights.

Just spend the money on the OE switch. Plug it in and be done with it.

Or modify the wiring for an aftermarket switch. But then you’re cutting up your wires.

Or don’t cut up the factory wiring and spend as much on parts to make it work, as the OE switch cost?

You make a strong case... Plug and play would be mighty preferable.
