can i simply swap an aftermarket LOUD horn with my factory horns? no wiring or relay/ button modifications. i could deal with making a mounting bracket(s) if needed.

    thanks

oops - which horns would work (i guess a two-part question)?

Yes they make horns that are said to be louder. Had some piaa horns on my 08 maybe a little louder they were plug and play.
If you want really loud like air horns it would require some mods.

I can't think of a reason why you couldn't just swap the horns out as long as the new one is a standard 12 volt horn? Now if it's one of those funky horns that sounds like a semi or plays the Dukes of Hazzard rebel melody then I don't know.

Hella sharptones are plug and play with the exception of adding a ground wire. Supertones need more wiring/relay to reach their full potential, although some run them without

I had onboard air in my 3/4 ton diesel and hooked a Wolo "The Chief" fire engine trumpet up to a negative triggered button on the dash that way if a copper pulled me over the factory horn still works. It was so much fun. 150 psi through that fire engine air horn would make people jump.

I hooked up a pair of Hella's, but used a relay to provide them power directly from the battery. The relay is triggered by the OEM horn's wiring when you hit the horn on the steering column. You will get much louder tone and sound doing this, than trying to piggyback them off of the OEM's horn circuit. So I retained the OEM horns and now have Hella's complimenting them.

Also have a PA installed, so I can chew wayward jaywalkers out. :D

You’re good. Those are the ones I got, I also wanted to avoid wiring but they come with a relay which I didn’t use. I installed them in place of the oem horns.
There’s good threads here detailing their install and what they sound like, but basically you just run a wire from one horns ground, to the next, to a ground on the chassis. Once you unplug the oem horns, those same female connections will plug into the positive terminals on the hellas. There’s room for both horns to mount near where the original horns are without drilling, but the stock positive wire for the horn nearest the passenger side is a stretch.
The tone isn’t that of a “man’s man” horn. It doesn’t sound like an air horn or even like a truck really. But it is definitely louder and gets the attention of other drivers. Eventually I’d like to run supertones in tandem but there’s a laundry list of things to do before I get there

Looks like those horns are 3-4 amps. So I would hook up a relay like suggested above. As far as getting shot at. What has the world come to,
