Check Craigslist, call local cap dealers and ask if they have used stock. I found two within a week, bought both and sold one for more than the cost of both. I definitely got lucky but both were sold for under $200.

I found a black Ranch cap on FB Marketplace for $550 that was well beyond my driving radius but decided to eat the pain (and $200 in tolls) and drove nearly to Pennsylvania from Southern WI. It looks fine on an MGM truck...maybe even better than a poorly color matched one. Keep looking and prepare to drive.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Gave up and went new. Same situation as you. Decided on no compromises with a warranty plus professional installation was better than waiting and compromising.

What dealer you go to and how much did that cost you? Not made to order used right? There were a few used places I contacted but nobody had any on hand when I was looking.

I ordered new from suburban toppers on Colfax in denver. They have the best price in the nation because they sell the most toppers. Give them a call and place an order, make a trip to Denver and go camp in it on the way back. I bought in January of this year. my 3rd topper from them, all ARE MX with windoors. The tacoma one was about $2900, came carpeted, etc...

Proud to say we’ve god damn done it guys!! Though I much prefer the look of the leer 180 over the MX, I found a decently priced MX fully kitted with all the options I’ve been looking for. Picking it up in a day or two- will post a pic once she’s on my truck :bananadance:

Guess I jinxed it. Dude selling his truck reneged and said he’s keeping it on because a potential buyer going to look at it next week is interested in having the shell on the truck. I’m biting the bullet and ordering a leer 180 new. 4400 is so steep but at least I’ll have it all exactly like I want + warranty & install.

Here ya I’m wishing I would have gone super pacific, in the end I can still camp comfortably in back, tools are “secure” and it costs a lot less.

ah that sucks, but the used seller may still call you, that potential buyer might not even show up, might not buy the truck at all, or want to pay much more.
Ask your local retailer if the deposit is refundable (I doubt it, since you are essentially buying a MTO item). After that, I think you are smart and skipping the searching, and buying new if this guy falls through.
