Do I have any leverage with the dealer here with a delay?

Walked in almost a month ago and put a deposit down on a SR 4x4 v6 for MSRP, got the stupid $1600 dealer nitrogen air tire fills and protective coating for the paint knocked off. For some reason the dealer was adamant about me paying for and keeping only one option so they could make some cash($180 for the OEM bed lights installed) I said fuck it, fine, after thinking on it when i got home, I really really dont want them as I will never install a bed cover or have a use for the lights but of course I signed the paperwork. My fault and I will eat it if I have to $180 is not a big deal.

Now I told the salesman when I need a truck by, I am starting a new job and NEED a vehicle by the 1st of july no matter what, I said if you cant almost guarantee me that then I will find a different allocation/truck on a different lot. He goes your truck is slated to arrive the 10th-16th of June, so a little over 3 week wait from my deposit date. I say perfect. Now I get a call Friday saying its been pushed back the 20th-27th of june. Scary close to my leaving date. Now I get ANOTHER call today saying my truck won't even make it to the railyard to be put on a rail car until the 5th of july and is just sitting at the port in Mexico.

Now NONE OF THAT is the dealers fault or the salesman even, he was going off the information given to him but I also told him before I signed the paperwork what I needed and by when, he said its not how it was a year or two ago and trucks are coming in much faster and to trust the date given. Now I trusted it and out of no fault of anyone i am in a bind obviously I have an option to get my deposit back and look for another truck but I doubt i cant find what i want in my price range before then.

I REALLY want these damn oem bed lights off the truck, before I make an even bigger ass out of myself do I have any leverage over the truck being pushed back to get these OEM lights taken off the final price or by signing the purchase agreement and putting a deposit down I have given all my leverage away?

I am posting on here to ask because while I will ask my salesman about it either way, I havent seen many people get things knocked off due to a delay.

Naw not twisted up as much as just annoyed with myself for not pushing more of them to get knocked off. Im a penny pincher usually ha.

 

Here we go again. You made money on the last 3 transactions. Rent a car, can’t do anything about timing. You’re still getting a decent deal in todays environment

1 month to allocate and deliver a vehicle is pretty close, for my comfort level anyway. Probably shouldve gotten one off the lot. Rent a car? Public transit?

Also, $180 is a drop in the bucket for the dealer, if you think they are happy that they are making $180 more off that truck, youre delusional. The more options a truck has the easier it is to allocate, the faster they can allocate it the faster they can deliver it.

Given that they can likely sell anything they have incoming at or above where you’re at you won’t get much.

Maybe an extra oil change or a free car wash. You could ask them to give you a loaner for 5 days … doesn’t hurt to ask but you’re not entitled to anything

If you signed the paperwork, then I would have to say no leverage. Is it a nonrefundable deposit? When I put a deposit down on my 22 Rolla I made sure if they couldn't find what I was looking for I got the deposit back.

 

90 percent of dealers in my area sadly do non refundables so yes.

 

The bed lights are more convenient to have than you'd think. Not a big deal. They're much cheaper to install yourself, but not worth getting so upset about, and should not be the reason for your truck getting delayed.

 

Yeah just was hoping to use the delay to my advantage but I get it, youre right.

 

When it comes in you might be able to tell them you don't need the extras , go over your agreement and see what all it entitled.
