During the process of installing the 949 Steering Wheel spacer for my 2017 SR5, I pulled to hard to remove the steering wheel and accidentally pulled the clock spring out. The ribbons became unwound and tangled, but I was able to put it back. After a lot of effort, the entire steering wheel with the mod was in place. I connected the battery and turned the engine on and there appeared to be no issues.

I tested the horn and it still worked, but I didn't think to test the media controls. Then I tested turning the wheel all the way in each direction, but something felt like it popped and I could feel/hear something lightly scraping inside somewhere as I turned. That's when I noticed the media controls did not work even though the horn works.

Should I replace the clock spring and if so is it something a professional should do?

Welcome to the forum. You should be able to replace it yourself especially now that you have some experience. Slow and easy wins the race.
