Hey Connecticut, our everything hurts

How did you get rid of the bees?? I have the same damn problem. They're all over my front yard. They're not yellow jackets (mine at least)... they look like honey bees.

 

Sheesh, I am sorry man. Things seem to come in waves. Been going through a bunch of stuff too and I definitely understand how hard it is to get anything done with little ones (3 year old and a 1 year old), so I empathize with you. Couldn’t imagine all of that on top of grad school.

 

If honey bees, call a beekeeper or someone who can move them without killing them. We need all the honey bees we can keep. Without honeybees and other pollinators- were fukt.

I have had pretty decent luck getting rid of yellowkackets by duct taping a hose to my big pry bar, slamming that thing in the hole (dealt with multiple ground nests the past couple years) and drowning them out. I do it at night, and run like hell after slamming the hose in there. My

 

10 minutes a day in the bathroom is equivalent to a week per year. Free extra week vacation?

Could probably manage it but not during my current time constraints... barely have enough time to think these days, weekends no different... sometimes it just makes sense to pay the professionals so it's one less thing to worry about / one less thing to be stressed about going smoothly

Think they're carpenter bees? Not sure, not well-versed in bees. Just know they're good for the world but a worry when flying around an 11-month-old. Got rid of them (or at least I think I did) by spraying a bunch of crap that the guy at Home Depot told me to spray, then sprayed some more, then covered the hole with a 4x8 piece of plywood. Not the most environmentally/ecologically friendly thing to do but can't have bees swarming the path my daughter gets walked down at least twice a day.

Could be carpenter bees, I found one munching on my deck railing.

 

Naw... these are small. Carpenter bees usually are bigger than what I have.

And these made their home in the ground, in my front yard.

 

Never tried it but I swear by this brand's mole repellent. Which is apparently also effective against...armadillos...if that's a problem down your way...

 

AH HA.

Might have to get that and give it a try.

 

Carpenter bees have large round bodies and will hover in place, stare at you, then move on. They don't sting (at least the males don't and females rarely do unless provoked). But will drill perfectly round holes in wood.

 

What I have are small, made their homes in the ground, and are constantly buzzing around.

Not to mention that I've walked "amongst them" and they don't bother me at all.

Yup. This one made such a nice hole you'd think it was done by a human with a drill. Got him and closed it up thankfully quick.
