Hello New friends I recently took my 2017 Tacoma in for a rear main seal, I understand the transmission had to be pulled as well as lowering some of the exhaust, two days later my check engine light came on about 50 miles in, code p0430 comes up I was wondering if the seal repair could have done something to the converter or the exhaust to cause this.

It's likely an exhaust leak, seen this before.

Well I’m not sure dealer is saying the converter needs to be replaced which could be the case, wasn’t sure if something else could throw that off.

They did have to move some of the exhaust to put the rear seal in!

I’d think there’s a good chance it’s related to the repairs. Do I think there’s a good chance they’ll own up to it? Eh 50/50 at best on this one.

I’m also hoping the rear main seal fixes your leak and you’re not back later with the same leak related to the front timing cover seal, and an improper initial diagnosis.

Take it somewhere else and have them look closely for exhaust leaks. If they find/fix something, bring the bill to the dealer for reimbursement
