Rockauto.com is a great place for parts like this. Here is a helpful video. Also if you search in YouTube whatever year your truck is and the repair you want to do, there are typically several helpful videos. I usually watch a few to get a good idea and learn several approaches. There’s more than one way to skin a cat!

THANK YOU I JUST placed an order and will look at the video if it's easy, I will do it, I now can no longer even fix things I build from zero being old sucks, bad joints I can not even use a smartphone no good feelings in my fingers anymore, using A FULL DESKTOP. I do have a guy I can pay to do it, while I wait. He does great body work cheaply, if someone is reading this, he saved the frame on the truck I paid for the steel and his labor was $1,000 JUST CALL MY PHONE 203 232 8888 he is in Bridgeport CT. I would hook you up with Carlos, its a work truck with a 136K ON IT Thank you again nzbrock

Recently replaced mine with an aftermarket one (see the journey here with pics) and agree, Rock Auto has them but there are two sizes, 2.4L and 4.5L, if yours is the smaller size be sure to get the right one. They used to be $25 or so but now are $50, an OEM one will run $170 or so.

Aftermarket ones come WITH a cap, this is a big deal as they are rather expensive for OEM ones, as I recall OEM ones don't and they are not cheap.

Also there is a hole in the bottom of the tank for the fluid level sensor, if yours is not equipped with the fluid level sensor be sure to get the one without the hole, otherwise you'll have to plug it (saw a video of a guy plugging his with JB Weld, duct tape and a bathtub plug . . . hate to be the new owner of that truck and find that "fix!" LOL)

R & R is probably one of the more simple procedures you'll do on the Taco:

    - Have a 2-3 gallon bucket ready.
    - You will need to use the dust guard and fluid level sensor from your existing reservoir.
    - Jack up the passenger side, remove tire for room to access.
    - In the lower front of the wheel well you'll find where the washer line is attached and level sensor connector (if so equipped.) There is a little plastic body retainer/clip holding the electrical connector in place, carefully push it upward to free it up and give yourself room to fiddle with it. Unplug the connector and the washer hose and let the washer fluid completely drain into the bucket. Alternatively you can plug the hose with a bolt but don't damage the hose unless you want to replace it.
    - There are four nuts in the wheel well holding it in, I believe 10mm, remove them.
    - Once loose, from the engine bay squeeze the little lock tabs on the filler neck so it can slide through the hole and drop down.
    - Comes out the bottom, carefully remove the dust guard from the old one (these cost more than the washer reservoir.) The dust guard is attached with staples, you can re-attach to the new tank with zip ties.
    - The new gasket at the sensor hole felt a little loose to me, but seals fine, I made sure by applying a little Goop around the hole.
    - WET TEST, fill it up, make sure nothing leaks except where it comes out the exit hose.

Bolt it back up, don't forget to reattach the hose and sensor connector, fill the reservoir.

I don't do Amazon for a lot of reasons, but my wife does all the time. Returning to Amazon is easy, put it back in the box and drop it off at the local shipping vendor (FedEx Store, for example, depends on how they shipped it.)

I can't say for sure - mine is a 2003 - but I don't think the '99 has a level sensor. Like I did in the link above, you can pull out the old one and examine it, it's an easy job. Yeah this means you have to do it twice unless you just want to leave it out until the replacement comes in.

I'd go with Rock Auto, but returns are a bit "fiddly" with them. The return process is almost stone age. If you get the right one, no sweat, but if you have to return it they deduct the return shipping from the refund. in a way it's kind of good, you print the return label right from their site and it costs less than just returning it by yourself.

EDIT: I just did a quick check and am not seeing a reservoir on Rock Auto for a '96. Maybe someone can chime in to see if later model reservoirs will fit? The first one I see is for a 2000 and it's out of stock.

Also, my overview of the R & R may be completely incorrect, since you recently mentioned it was a '96.

I believe all the aftermarket ones will come like that no matter what. It doesn't come with a sensor, all you do is plug the hole. I have even heard that some don't even have the hole and you have to drill it out if you want to install a sensor.

There's two that fit....one without the extra sensor hole....

    Amazon.com: Toyota W/Washer Reservoir - 85315-04050 : Automotive

and the one with the extra hole in bottom for low fluid sensor..

    Amazon.com: Toyota W/Washer Reservoir - 85315-04060 : Automotive

If you buy an aftermarket one......sometimes they only make the one with the two holes, and give you a plug......sometimes...

@O'Silver_Taco these replacements work for the 96? seems like they are different for that year for some reason. not sure why

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Over the years I have relocated a few .

Any place you have room on the inner fender .

just a matter of adjusting the hoses and wiring.

I understand your physical limits all to well.

I replaced mine with that long filler neck one.

Kind of a pain having to take the air box out.

The first one failed at the neck. So would not give it a second thought to use the simpler one without the neck.

That is if you have room to stick it on the fender or firewall.

And there should be plenty of room if you dont have a cruise control or an abs unit over there.
